About Charlie
When the Ranger sent me a photo of a Wolfhound mix dog at the Pound, I was thinking of a much larger dog. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Charlie really isn’t that much bigger than a medium sized dog.
He arrived with a big patch of denuded hair from the butt of his tail to halfway up his back - a classic flea allergy sign. Despite his discomfort, he arrived with a massive smile on his big teddy bear face.
A bath and some medication soon took the fleas away as well as the heat and itch, so he now has an even bigger reason to smile.
Charlie has been a nice boy with every dog he’s met so far, including my Cattle Dog who thinks he’s a little higher up the totem pole than most. He’s been great with males, females and the foster pups.
Testament to his good nature has to be this incident.
I was taking some photos of him with the IPad when the screen door blew open and Charlie was up the steps and going inside. The cats were inside and because Charlie is not good with cats, the only thing I could think to do, with IPad in one hand, was grab him by the tail and drag him out so that I could reach his collar. Many dogs would have bitten me for such ill treatment, but fortunately that thought didn’t enter his head.
He loves nothing more than to explore the garden with whoever his friends are at the time and to wallow in the water trough where the air conditioner hose runs into it. When he’s done with exploring and socialising, Charlie chills on the concrete at the back door.
When it’s time to return to the kennels, Charlie and several others happily run ahead via the stables and yards, ignoring the horses surveying the scene over the fence.
Charlie’s leash skills have needed some work and he’s responding well.
Not recommended for a home with cats.
He’s in care at Moree, NSW. Moree has daily flights to Sydney and further afield. Dog road transport is another fortnightly option and is proving very popular for the bigger dogs.
