About Cherry
Our sweet Cherry girl is ready to find her forever home!
Cherry came into our care after being surrendered into a rural pound by her former ‘owners’ who she suffered years of abuse and neglect at the hands of. Despite being a Great Dane mix, Cherry’s growth has been severely stunted and as a result is the size of a medium dog.
That is in the past now and Cherry is eager to move towards the future. She has a gap tooth smile that melts even the iciest of hearts, and a heart that knows no limits for loving others. She is one of the most loveable ladies you will ever meet. Her hobbies include giving hugs, escorting you wherever you may go, catching up on her beauty sleep (preferably next to you!) and rolling around the yard (can’t beat a back scratch)! She is a gentle, friendly and loving soul! She is learning how to play with toys though currently prefers quality time with you. She enjoys car rides and investigating new people, dogs, and places. However prefers her adventures to be slow and steady (lots of running is just tiring and not at all ladylike!) with plenty of time to rest. She is a refined lady who is not opposed to grooming including baths.
If you think you might be Cherry’s happily ever after, please complete an adoption application today xx
Medical notes
Due to her severe neglect, Cherry’s growth has been stunted and as such she is the size of a medium dog. It is not anticipated that she’ll grow any further.
Adopters must continue meals twice a day of premium adult biscuits. As is common with dogs who have experienced malnourishment, Cherry may see non-edible objects as food and if adopter intends for Cherry is to be allowed inside, they need to ensure food is put away and benches are kept clear.
Cherry has undergone surgery of her jaw and teeth and will need 6 monthly check ups to keep her teeth as healthy as possibly. She should not be given bones as this might result in an injury to her jaw.
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
- Cats are adopted under the expectation they will be kept indoors or in an enclosed area eg cat run or cat-net veranda. We provide cats with core vaccines up to date while in care, however recommend a full FIV/FELV protocol especially if the cat will go outdoors.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate and microchip number implant details. You will also be provided with 7 days worth of food, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
