About Iris
HELLOOOO!!!
We are Iris and Tiva and we are super excited to meet you.
Actually, we're just super excited about everything! We are super friendly, confident, sociable, out-going kittens who love to explore and play and get up to mischief. Tiva has no concept of personal space and he's fond of sitting on your shoulder like a parrot if you'll let him! He's also a master climber.
Iris tends to follow his lead and is a little bit less full-on, although she's still bursting with joy and enthusiasm for life.
We had a pretty rough start and we do have some special needs for you to be aware of. When we were just tiny babies we both had very bad conjunctivitis and eye infections. Our eyes were so swollen that it was hard to see if we had any eyeballs at all! It was super painful and horrible. We were found by a member of the public who took us to a vet, but they were going to put us to sleep because we were so ill and there was no one to look after us. We were found in Mandurah but through the magic of the animal rescue community, our lives were saved and we travelled all the way to Northam to our foster mum's house.
We saw another vet and had lots of ointments and drops for our eyes, as well as antibiotics. The medicine helped to make us better, but it took a lot of time. We had to have our eyes cleaned and treated every day but slowly they got better! To begin with, Iris couldn't see at all and she was probably going to need to have both her eyes removed. But guess what?! She's done so well that she now has partial vision from her left eye. Her right eye has now been removed as it had no vision at all and may have had problems if it was left there - but at least she's not totally blind! As you can see from our photos, she can still play with string toys! (Even if her aim isn't always great )
Tiva has one slightly dodgy eye but he does still have vision in it, and his other eye is perfect! So he's her personal "seeing-eye cat."
We are totally inseperable and make a pretty dynamic duo. We are good with cats and dogs and would be fine with kids (although we are still learning how to use our claws, so we might be a bit too sharp for tiny children!)
Our eyes are unlikely to have on-going issues so you shouldn't face complications. The only thing we need (apart from each other!) is to be guaranteed to live as indoor-only cats. The world is a big scary place with lots of risks for a cat and especially for kitties who are vision impaired.
Once we know our environment, we hoon around in it like you wouldn't believe! As you can imagine though, we will need a little bit more time than the average cat to acclimatise to a new place. This won't be troublesome for you, but you should start off with us just in one room for a little while before introducing us to the whole house. Iris tends to be a little bit uncomfortable being up at heights so she might take a while to start sitting on the couch etc - but Tiva has no such problems and loves to explore!
We will bring so much joy and light into our new home. Please adopt us today!
