About Kala
Hi everyone!
I am so excited to meet you. I am part of the Tarzan Litter. My mum came into care with us when we were just 6 weeks old. Mum hadn't been very well cared for and was very thin and we all had terrible fleas etc - but with some TLC we were back to our bouncy happy selves in days! I have a natural half-length tail that never stops wagging.
I currently live in Brisbane with other dogs, and cats. I get along well with everyone. I am a definite heart thief, everyone who meets me falls madly in love with me. I am a smart, obedient and food orientated girl who loves to please!
I would love to go to a home who will contine my training and socialisation so I can grow up to be a healthy, calm and balanced doggo. I would love to go out 4-5 times a week for off leash runs and leashed walks - both are important for different reasons. I currently don't know how to walk on a leash as I have been in 'quarantine' since coming into care, meaning I wasn't able to leave my foster yard until I had had my first and second vaccinations and was fully protected from common diseases. So learning to walk well on a leash is an adventure we can go on together! I am currently great with dogs so if you have friends with other dogs it would be really great if my dog social skills were maintained via play dates!
I sleep inside at night and am a pretty good doggo, I don't make much noise and know to only get up and into it when my humans do. I am quickly learning my toilet training and bed time routine and haven't been any trouble at all. I'd love to go to a home that will let me sleep inside at night, either on a dog bed or in a crate if you'd like to crate train me - however if you need an outside dog that's ok, just please make sure I have plenty of shade and shelter from wind, sun and rain, and that you start me sleeping outside from day 1. A lot of people think they should keep me inside until I'm bigger or older - but that's actually going to make me think I am being punished when you kick me out! So if your real estate eg only allows for outside dogs that is totally ok - just please start me sleeping outside from day 1. Yes for a couple of days I will be a bit confused but if you just put me to bed with a few toys and chews and say a happy 'goodnight' I will quickly learn that everyone is calm and ready for bed and that I need to go to sleep too. Usually what OTC would recommend is you set up a small area for me around my sleeping space, so that I'm not scared and lost in a huge yard, and can ease into outdoors slowly as I grow. Play pens or rapid mesh etc make great temporary enclosures for a growing puppy.
I am unsure exactly what my breed mix is, but breed isn't everything. I will very likely grow to be a medium sized dog. I am well on track to be 25-30kg as an adult and maybe around knee height. Unfortunately my mum came from a broken home and doesn't know who my dad is! But we suspect he is a similar breed to my mum, aka a cattle dog x. I have attached a pic of my mum for you so you can see where I get my beautiful looks from. She's looking for a new home too, so if you know any friends looking for a calm and affectionate girl who just needs to be loved in return for once, please send them to OTC to meet her!
Medical notes
I have had two of my three puppy vaccinations. My last vaccination was 14/03/2019, a 'C5' vaccination. I am due for one more mid April and then I am fully vaccinated for the year. I am desexed, microchipped and worm and flea treated. I was given Bravecto in February so my next flea and tick treatment is due 20/05/2019. I have a natural half-length tail!
DATE OF BIRTH 03/01/2019
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The particular rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
- Cats are adopted under the expectation they will be kept indoors or in an enclosed area eg cat run or cat-net veranda. We provide cats with core vaccines up to date while in care, however recommend a full FIV/FELV protocol especially if the cat will go outdoors.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the dogs/cats. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we do not often have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk to us about possibility of a roadtrip to you.
If at the meet, you and the pet get along- you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days upon placing a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have either removed your hold or adopted the animal.
When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed. All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the pet for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate and microchip number implant details.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
