About 🐾 Mr. Wiggles 🐾 Special Needs ❣️
Mr. Wiggles is a very special little boy! He was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (or “CH” as it is often referred to). CH is an underdeveloped cerebellum (the part of the brain that controls fine motor skills) at birth. This results in a lack of coordination and a head tremor of varying degrees.
Thankfully for Wiggi, his CH is only mild to moderate and he is very capable of doing just about everything a ‘normal’ kitten can do!
Although it might be uncomfortable for some people to watch Wiggi’s tremors and wobbles, it's important to remember that his condition does not cause him any pain or other medical conditions or complications. Wiggles is simply uncoordinated and to him this is normal. CH cats have the same life expectancy as ‘normal’ cats and they think they’re just like everyone else! Unfortunately for Mr. Wiggles, he is also deaf, which cats cope quite well with, but due to the combination of CH and deafness, Wiggi is looking for a very special home.
Welcoming a special needs pet into your home is an extremely rewarding experience. When placed in homes that are suited to their specific needs, they thrive and we have no doubt that little Wiggi will bring so much joy and entertainment to his very lucky forever home. Below are the requirements for Mr. Wiggle’s specific needs:
A single story, indoor only home. While he could probably manage stairs, we feel it would be safer for him to be in a single level home. Being both deaf and physically challenged, Wiggles will need to be indoor only, though would be fine to have access to a completely secure and suitable outdoor enclosure.
A home with a clear and easily accessible area for his food and water. Mr. Wiggles’ head tends to tremor most when he eats, which makes it a rather messy affair! He will need enough space to have his food and water far enough apart, that he can’t inadvertently ‘flick’ food while eating, into the water and contaminate it. Wiggi is excellent at using his litter tray, but he is a digger! He would do best with a large, hooded tray, to contain his litter exuberance!
A home with at least one existing, friendly pet. Wiggles loves to make friends! He is fearless in this regard and would be suited to a home with any existing, proven cat friendly, cats and dogs of all sizes.
A home that understands that deaf cats can, at times be quite vocal, because they can’t hear themselves! Mr. Wiggles loves a chat and will ‘call’ to you, if he doesn’t know where you are or wants your attention!
A home that will be mindful of his disability, as although he can do most of the things ‘normal’ cats can do, his CH can make him quite clumsy and his home may need to do a little bit of “Wiggle-proofing”, with things that could be knocked over or broken!
Mr. Wiggles is currently obsessed with his spinning toy (which will go with him) and will benefit from other interactive toys to keep himself entertained.
Although this might seem like a long list of requirements, we believe they are necessary to ensure that Mr. Wiggles can live his best life! We are quite sure the home that welcomes this gorgeous, fearless, hilarious and very special boy into their lives, will wonder how they ever lived without him!
