Fred is an 18 month old kelpie that was born in a litter of unwanted pups and spent the first year of his life on a farm chained to a kennel. Whilst he had food and shelter he had very little contact with people and as a result no training and was very very timid.
After Fred was surrendered by the farmer he was placed in foster care where he has been for the past six months.
Unfortunately the carer is no longer able to have Fred so he needs to find a new forever home.
He has a beautiful, gentle nature and whilst he is gaining trust in people he is still very timid. He will make an excellent companion for someone who is willing to be kind and patient to nurture and train him, allowing him to continue to build trust with people.
He is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped and currently not house trained. He will walk on a lead but tends to pull. His current career has been using an extender lead to assist with this. Currently he has been allowed to roam freely on the carer’s farm without attempting to runaway. He can be difficult to catch in open areas but in areas such as an enclosed deck or small yard can be enticed to come with treats and gentle encouragement. Recently he has been exposed to opportunities inside where he is learning to stay on his mat with good success. He is frightened easily by loud noises or quick and unexpected movements due to lack of contact and exposure to different experiences. He loves going in the car and is learning not to bark whilst travelling. He has not had any contact with children and is wary of men wearing large hats.
What Fred needs is a calm, quiet home ideally with someone who has had experience with dogs with a temperament similar to Fred’s and prepared to spend time training him and perhaps where he is the only pet. Whilst in care he unfortunately had an accident which resulted him needing to have his tail docked but this hasn’t stopped him showing his joy and happiness as he now ‘wags’ his whole body instead!
Located Gough's Bay.
