About Lonnie
Lonnie and his three siblings (all adopted) were found on a busy road near a village at barely six weeks of age.
Lonnie is the lucky last but definitely not the least.
Why is it that the last of the litter is often hard to shift? Is it human nature for potential adopters to feel that the puppies have been “picked over” or there must be “something wrong” with the puppy for him/her to still be waiting for a family?
Neither of these scenarios is the case - many people choose their new family member based on the photos and speaking with us. Lonnie was my pick from the start - he’s very laid back and will make a delightful pet. A smart boy, he catches on very quickly and watches to see what you’re going to ask of him next.
Lonnie is very well socialised with other dogs and puppies, he’s interacted happily with the cats and my grandchildren.
Kelpie fanciers will know the energy and mental stimulation requirements of Kelpies, but for the uninitiated, Kelpies don’t have to live on a farm to be happy. Indeed, even on a farm, working dogs don’t usually have free rein of the property. They are generally confined when they’re not working - if they are not required to work on a given day, they are usually let out “for a run” for an hour or two.
Kelpies do need the opportunity to have at least a good daily run on the beach, near a lake or river, at the dog park, on acreage, chasing a frisbee or tennis ball, or as a jogging or cycling companion. They excel at activities like flyball and agility. Many people find that having a second Kelpie or another active dog works well because the dogs can enjoy fun and some exercise, even if you’re away.
Life wouldn’t be much fun for a Kelpie to be home alone all day while you’re at work.
Lonnie is in care at Moree, NSW. Moree has daily flights to Sydney and further afield. Road transport passes through Moree each fortnight.
