About Barney
I was a little nervous about introducing Barney to the other dogs who are all smaller than him and in particular my Cattle Dog, who struts around with an air of “this is my place” when there are newbies in the garden. But I needn’t have worried, Barney was and is a true gentleman even with small fluffy dogs and the pups who haven’t quite learned their social boundaries who jumped up to lick his mouth.
The Ranger at the Pound loved Barney and told me how Barney liked to sit beside him while he was doing paperwork. He was full of praise for Barney, his manners, social skills and general demeanour and so am I.
Barney loves people and is so affectionate, smooching his head on you, he loves pats and cuddles. He has nice manners, sits and waits for his meal, when I tell him it’s ok to eat, he sits for a few more seconds, then begins to eat.
He’s such a playful boy and has a ball running around playing chasey with another dog. It’s hilararious to watch him chasing his playmate who then leaps the fence. You would expect that a big fellow like Barney would leap the fence after her, but he applies the brakes and stops in his tracks at the fence. Not once has he jumped out, yet many dogs find my fence easy to jump.
Barney’s in care at Moree, NSW. Dog road transportation passes through Moree each fortnight.
