About Max
Meet Max. Max is a desexed male, approximately 2yo , terrier mix. We were told Maltese x.
Ideally Max is looking for a home with a person home more than not, maybe semi-retired or retired that already likes going out for a walk each day but looking for a walking buddy and a lap dog rolled into one!
Max loves his walks each day and once home Max wants to be with someone who will keep him inside with them, on the couch or even the bed while watching the TV or reading the newspaper. He will be happy to sunbake close by if you like gardening. He will follow you from room to room but doesn't get underfoot just watches you until you settle back down again so he can join you.
Max has so many fantastic qualities such as :
He is house trained
He is great on lead - loves his walks!
He is very good off lead in safe areas away from cars and roads (once he knows you are his person)
He is super affectionate but only to the degree you want to pat him, otherwise he is happy to sit by you or near you just for the company
He likes the car (was very unsure about it when first came into rescue) He has started to enjoy going into the creeks, but feet are still firmly on the ground.
He loves his person so much - he just needs one of his own that will commit to him for life
He has started to 'talk' when we get ready for walks - so cute - but does not bark
He has shown no anxiety with being left at home (but is not a dog for a full time worker)
When Max was surrendered (through no fault of his own) he had a sore leg that was not disclosed to WDR. This is now mended but will probably always leave him with a skip or sometimes a three legged run in times of high play. It certainly does not slow him down when playing and running.
He is currently living with other dogs, and even cats, and for a dog that was likely not well socialised before coming into foster care he has adapted remarkably well. However, he can be dominant at times, (little dog syndrome) but corrects well if a dog or a person says 'No'! But if not corrected by another dog he can continue to think he is the boss.
Ideally, we are looking for a quiet home as an only dog with a walker and a comfy couch is what we are after for Max. He will still need to meet and socialise with other dogs at the park or with friends. We will not rule out him living with another dog but a meet and greet with the other dog is a must. Yes, he is a 'cute' dog but he has a few quirks which is why we are looking for the home/person mentioned above, so if you have children full time unfortunately he is not the one for you. He can be a timid dog until he knows you are his person, and may react if startled or scared, or unsure of a new person or place.
I think Max is a super dog, and as a companion for someone wanting a buddy to keep them company he is ideal but like all dogs he is not going to be perfect but we would love to chat to you about him.
Please note that Max is only listed as available for interstate adoption due to the location on WDR on the state border. Max will not be placed on transport for adoption.
