About Rex
Rex is a big beautiful boy who is very friendly & intelligent - he has learned to play with toys .... squeaky ball and tug ropes are his faves. You can read Rexy's moods by his gorgeous facial expressions 😉 Rex is toilet trained for outside through a large doggie door.
Since coming into rescue, Rex has been on a strict diet and has lost a considerable amount of weight. We believe Rex was fed a lot of human food at his previous home as he is always looking for it when it is (human) meal time at his foster home.
When Rex came into care he also had no concept of walking on a lead, and because of his size he was very resistant to the lead - and wanted to do as he pleased ... Rex would just sit/lay down and thought he was unmoveable. He definitely fits the stereotype of a very stubborn bulldog.
Rex's foster parents put in a lot of effort, and Rex now only wants to go out the front door with his lead on. He gets quite excited to go now and would probably be happy with as many walks a day he can get. Rex has gone from fat to fit since in foster care which you can see in his overall demeanour.
We would recommend Rex have a canine companion if his new owners are in and out of home throughout the day (a female dog med/large in size is preferred). Rex will whinge for company or to let you know what he wants 😂 Rex is happy as long as he has company - could be humans or another dog. Rex likes to play with his foster sister Kelly - a female American Bulldog ~1 year younger than Rex. Rex will try to remove himself from playing when he feels he has had enough (usually under our stool or feet).
Rex has been fantastic around his foster parents 4x grandkids and will suit a home that does have kids / grandkids (with supervision of course). Saying that rex sometimes doesn't know his size & weight when playing and meeting new people so this is something you should always be mindful of.
Rex will need more work understanding his commands. He can do the basics but as a typical American Bulldog can be very strong willed. Rex doesn't have a mean bone in his body, he has not shown aggression in any situation whilst in foster care, even when he ripped his dew claw and his foster parents had to tend it.
Rex's foster parents wanted to leave you with this summary of him:
We have found beautiful big Rexy to be a fantastic all-round dog who just wants company, and lots of cuddles and love - as thats what he has given us.
Whoever adopts Rex is going to get a best friend and gem of a bulldog!
Rex is currently fostered in Melbourne. If you live in Victoria and would like to adopt Rex please complete the application form https://www.minisbulldogrescue.com/apply
Medical notes
We suspect Rex ate too much table / human food at his previous home. He was overweight to the point he couldn't sit / lie comfortably. Since coming into rescue, Rex has been on a strict diet and it has done him the world of good in terms of mobility and happiness. We need his new owners to be careful to keep Rex's weight down so that he can live a happy long life.
