About Bilby
This handsome man is Bilby!
Bilby is a friendy older boy who loves the company of his people most of all.
This gorgeous boy aims to please. He is looking for a home where unconditional love will be offered in return for his love and loyalty.
Bilby would do best in a home where he will be welcomed inside to spend lots of time with his special people. He loves the companionship of being close to his people and will only suit a home where he can sleep inside. He is toilet trained and can hold on overnight.
Bilby would sleep in a bed of his own but would be extremely happy to have a human's bed to share. He does not enjoy the cold so being an inside/outside dog is a must.
Bilby is not crate trained but deals well with confined spaces and generally curls up for a sleep as long as there’s comfy spot to sit and not too much stimulation. While he has been in foster, he has spends a lot of time inside while his foster human is working and does not get into any trouble at all. One of his favourite spots to sit is on a cushion or the back edge of the couch. He may be small and short but he loves to be up high.
Bilby loves his car rides but can only tolerate short walks because of some arthritis in his back legs. He also loves meeting new people and taking in new sights and smells. Bilby handles being on leash well, but only short walks or he tires out.
He enjoys a walk most days but also loves his down times. He is very in tune to his people and always enjoys praise for being a good boy. Since coming to foster, it has become clear that Bilby is quite deaf. He has had 2 courses of ear cleaning over several weeks prescribed by vets. He manages to get by quite well and on the upside because he doesn't hear little noises, he does not have a bad habit of nuisance barking. He did not even notice the fireworks on new years eve. Even though he can't hear he has shown the capacity to learn new things while in foster care and is very motivated by food.
Bilby is a social boy, but he doesn't play with other dogs all that much, prefers to spend his time with humans snuggling on the couch. Bilby has been in foster with other dogs, just cares more for human contact than dogs. He will not have any issue sharing his home with another dog but it is not essential if his family members are home a lot of the time to offer him the company he loves so much.
Bilby is 9 years young, but has the energy of a puppy when his people return home. He will require lots of company and stimulation to prevent him becoming bored and lonely. He has always lived with many other dogs and will not cope being left on his own all day. This will not be an option.
Bilby would be happy with older children/grandchildren (not toddlers) around who can be taught about his special needs and how to treat him well in his old age.
When Bilby is left outside he may bark or once or twice then settles. Some time will be needed to allow him the chance to settle in his new home and to understand that his important people will return home to him.
Overall Bilby would be a great companion dog for someone who is home a lot or can work from home. Better still, the opportunity to accompany someone to work in their office would really float his boat.
Bilby will need regular grooming to keep him comfortable and looking his very best.
We look forward to hearing from you if you have a special place inn your home for Bilby.
PLEASE READ BILBY'S MEDICAL NOTES BEFORE APPLYING
Medical notes
Bilby has a luxating patella which can not be reduced. The vet has advised against doing surgery as it will be major reconstructive surgery and is unlikely to make much improvement.
He has some arthritis so needs monthly cartrophen injections and some joint formula may also help to offer him some extra comfort. He requires regular short walks to continue building up the leg muscles to help him maintain mobility.
Bilby also has a grade 3 heart murmur which doesn't currently require any treatment but will need to be monitored to notice if it becomes more severe. If that happens he may need medication in the future but it is not required at this time.
Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
