About Holly ~ Foxhound x Kelpie (on trial 2/3/2019)
Introducing Holly a delightful 3 year old Foxhound x Kelpie who will brighten your day and be sure to steal your heart. She is a chilled out and soft natured pooch who is eager to please you and befriend everyone. How can you not be smitten with her beaming smile ?
Holly is a social butterfly - she loves people and dogs of all ages and sizes. She’s a bubbly gal who enjoys walks and is great on lead . When you’re out and about she happily meets new people calmly and shows off her wonderful manners. She’s not daunted by being the centre of attention - this is a girl who knows how to woo a crowd - she enjoys pats and affection and will roll over for a belly rub.
Holly enjoys romping about with the other dogs she’s in foster care with so she’d suit a family who already have a playful and friendly canine who will be her buddy. She may also suit being an only-furchild with a family who dotes on her. She likes playing with chew toys and squeaky toys - she doesn’t destroy them or demand you throw them - she’ll happily and confidently keep herself entertained playing with them.
Holly is so well-mannered - in the words of her foster carer “I just can’t fault this lovely girl“ - you’ll be smitten too once you meet her! She sits, shakes and drops and looks to you for reward - praise or food rewards are both fine by her. Holly isn’t fussy with food and loves her treats so she’s responsive to advanced training .
Holly is a Foxhound so enjoys putting her nose to the ground and following a scent - her new family could involve her in some nose-work training and games in the yard. Her new family should be mindful of a Foxhound’s joy of following scents outside the home too - she can have selective (oblivious) hearing if let off the lead so long-lead and recall training is a must for this conscientious girl !
Holly would suit many different family or lifestyle situations - she’d be a good match with a young couple who are settled in and ready for their first fur-child , a family with older well-mannered kids who are used to dogs, a single person who can take a dog to work or even a semi-retired couple who’s two legged kids have left the nest. Due to Holly’s easy going nature she’ll happily settle in to new environments as long as her favourite person is there (and that’s you!)
Holly currently sleeps inside - her favourite spot being curled up contently under her foster carers bed . We would prefer she be allowed to continue sleeping inside as she’s so well mannered in the house that she’s no trouble at all. She hasn’t been tested with cats or pocket pets at this point in time - but being a scent hound she may try to track them .
