About Snow White
Are you ready to hear a true rags to riches, Disney-princess tale? A story of heartbreak overcome, of a second chance? That is Snow White's story.
Before we tell you the whole story, we're going to get the important bits out of the way quickly - Snow White is not suited to a home with young children, cats, or small pets. She isn't ideal for a home with full-time workers and she MUST be adopted to a home with another dog, preferably another sight-hound such as a borzoi, greyhound, afghan hound or similar.
Okay back to the story. Snow White and her sisters were an accidental litter. They were never shown or sold as pups and so the 5 of them grew up living basically their whole lives in a kennel environment. There were no witches or evil step-sisters here, just a very sad and unfortunate situation. These girls were not socialised with other people or other dogs. They never wore collars or leads and didn't leave their property. They weren't physically abused but they didn't lead 'normal' dog lives. Last year, one of their caretakers passed away and after that, their quality of life deteriorated further. When ultimately their handsome prince came (some very dedicated dog rescuers!) they were underweight, dirty and unkempt, with nasty diarrhoea and sad, uncertain faces.
You can only imagine what it would feel like, after five years locked in a dungeon to suddenly discover that there is a whole new world out there, big and bright and full of new things.
Snow White and her sisters had real trouble understanding basic things, like how to walk up and down stairs and where to go to the toilet. They bumped into glass doors over and over again and were overwhelmed by the concept of car rides.
With a lot of love and patience from her dedicated foster carer, Snow White has blossomed and flourished - her sisters are now all in their forever homes and it's finally her turn.
Although she has made lots of progress, Snow White still has many quirks and foibles. Her new family need to be seriously dedicated to giving her the best possible life and must understand that her adjustment to a new home is not going to be a quick one.
Having always lived with other dogs, it is essential that she go to a home with an existing canine. A friendly dog will provide company, familiarity and friendship and teach her how to behave and be a more 'normal' dog. Another sight-hound would be ideal - partially because this is all she has ever known but also because these dogs tend to share play styles and behaviours.
She has not been tested on cats or small animals and at this time we feel it would be most appropriate for her to go to a home where small fluffy things don't live.
Snow White can be wary of men. We are definitely happy for her to be adopted into a home with males, but be prepared for her to take more time to warm up to more masculine individuals.
She is on top of her house-training now but there's a possibility this will slip once she goes to a new place, so prepared to potentially have some messes to clean up in the beginning.
Borzois are alert and engaging with an intelligence all their own. You may never teach her to sit or stay but Snow White's smarts will soon amaze you. These guys are NOT renowned for coming when called, so off-lead outings may not be an option!
Snow White is beautiful and very unusual. It is our sole focus to find her the most appropriate home we possibly can so we hope that you understand we will be taking our time reviewing any applications we receive. You will need to have several meet and greets in her foster home in Kalamunda prior to actually taking her home. We can't wait to meet you, the knight in shining armour who will give Snow White her fairy tale ending!!
*Please note that in the photo, Snow White is the dog at the front and her sister Ariel (at the back) has already been adopted*
