About Bear ~ Maltese x (on trial 2/3/2019)
Stop scrolling! This is NOT your average white fluffy dog! Meet Bear, a fun loving and gregarious 6 year old Maltese Terrier X.
When Bear came into my family as a foster dog, I thought no way would I enjoy a little fluffy lap dog. Boy, was I wrong. Bear’s personality is what I would describe as effervescent. His eyes sparkle with devotion and his tail wags with joy. He is adventurous and outgoing. He loves going for walks to new places and he walks very well on the lead.
Bear is extremely dog friendly, he loves to play with other dogs and he currently lives with three others. Sometimes he will get too excited on a walk and bark at other dogs he meets but given the opportunity, he just wants to play.
In his household Bear also lives with two cats who he gets along with. He has briefly been introduced to chickens and horses and he has been sensible.
Bear loves to run, play fetch, swim and get dirty. Nobody told him he is snowy white and only 5 kilograms.
When he isn’t on an adventure, Bear wants to be inside with his family. He likes to recline in your arms while his belly gets rubbed or take on ‘the froggy position’ on the cool tiles. If it were up to Bear, he would be snuggled with a human all day long. Sometimes he cries when left outside alone. After a short while he will settle down, but he would thrive being allowed to be mostly indoors and with his people.
Bear’s housetraining is still a work in progress - over the past three weeks he has settled into a toileting routine and is learning to get our attention when he needs to go outside with very few accidents however once he finds his forever home, his new routine and environment may take some adjustment and he may have some accidents. Bear would benefit from attending basic obedience classes to solidify his recall and other commands.
One of Bear’s quirks is that he is a ‘talker’. He tells us exactly what he wants and how he feels with various vocalisations. He would appreciate a dog savvy owner who can read his body language to understand that his growls and grunts are not a sign of aggression, he just really wants you to throw his ball!! I think he would benefit from a family with children over 10 years old to ensure his personal boundaries are maintained and he isn’t accidentally frightening young kids.
I can’t express enough just how cool this little dude is. He is the life of the party and also a loyal and gentle friend.
