About Duke. Melbourne
Duke is a lively go-getter who throws himself into whatever he’s doing. For a greyhound, he’s relatively high-energy, and absolutely loves his two daily walks. He also loves people, and is incredibly friendly to whoever he meets—even strangers in the street. He’s a quick learner, who bounces back quickly if things go wrong. For Duke, it’s all just another adventure!
Duke would like a home with people who’ll share his enthusiasm for life, and include him in whatever they’re doing—preferably with his head nestled lovingly under their armpit. He’d also like a large doggy friend, because he gets anxious by himself. He gets on well with his similarly-sized canine foster brother, after some minor scuffles as he tested the boundaries. Duke is quickly learning how to respect other dogs’ space; and also learning household rules, like waiting nicely for dinner and at doorways, rather than just bounding in. Duke may be ok with older children (not yet tested), but is too inquisitive and energetic to live with small dogs or cats.
Duke loves doing new things, so going to his forever home will be the best adventure ever. If you love greyhounds, but also like a dog with a bit more spunk, then come and meet Duke for a scratch behind the ears (his favourite). We can guarantee he’ll be extremely happy to see you!
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
