About Bilby
My name is Bilby I got this name because I kind of look like a wee Bilby as I have an overshot jaw and they call me Tiny but Mighty. That is probably because I am an enthusiastic little girl with unending energy. I ended up at CRQ with painful back legs but that didn't stop me from running around for one second. The vet performed surgery on one my tiny legs and after months of rest and physio, it was as good as new.
Even though I had a rocky life before CRQ, I am a very happy dog. I love all humans and dogs, big or small as long as you are willing to play with me all day every day. I love playing fetch and can keep going for hours until you are tired. After a long day of play, I like to cuddle up to you and be close to you. I have so much love to give and love getting pats. I also get very excited on walks as I just love walking on grass and smelling all the new exciting scents. My foster mum tells me that she can never be sad with me around as I always manage to make her happy with the sheer joy I radiate.
I would be a great fit for a family with older kids who can handle me with gentle care as I am a fragile 2.4 kg bundle of joy and who can keep me entertained all day. I would also love it if there are furry friends around as I have been around my foster chihuahua brother for a long time and love his company. So please apply for me if you have another playful small dog, I don't want to be an only dog. Oh nearly forgot to tell you, I was chosen to be CRQ Calendar cover girl for 2019, so I am now pretty famous.
During the day, I like to chill in my play pen and will not be a bother to anyone. I can also be thoroughly entertained with enrichment toys when you are to busy to play with me. I love my Kong and lick mat. I am also a good little girl as I always go to the toilet on my puppy pad. A fenced outside area would be great also for me to play in.
Do you have a loving home for me? If you do please read my medical notes further down, then if that is all ok with you please fill out an expression of interest, you will find the link down even further. Thanks for reading, I hope I meet you soon.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant X-rays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Bilby came to us with Grade 4 patella luxation in both hind legs and a mouth full of rotten teeth. She ended up having 11 teeth extracted and a good dental clean. Then a few weeks later she underwent an orthopaedic surgery to correct her right hind leg patella and this involved placing implants in the knee to stabilise and correct it.
After the surgery Bilby had several professional physiotherapy sessions to strengthen the leg, and a few months later the implants were removed from Bilby’s knee, as sometimes in smaller dogs these can cause irritation and aren’t required once the leg has healed.
At this stage, the left leg has benefited from the right leg becoming more stable, and Bilby can walk and run comfortably, so the decision by our Vet was made to not do surgery on the left leg, however in the future this may be required, so any potential adopters will need to be aware of this.
Bilby has an overshot jaw but she has no problem eating.
