About Barney
Hi, my name is Barney, I’m a 8.5 year old Dachshund. My foster mum says I’m super cute and cuddly & I’m not going to argue with her, just look at me!
I’m on the lookout for my new family. They must be very special people and understand the characteristics of a Dachshund. I have a very friendly affectionate nature, and I get along well with children and other dogs (but I do have a quirk - I love to play with other dogs of all sizes but can be a bit snappy if I am sitting on your lap or lying next to you in bed and another dog wants the attention - i am instantly sorry for snapping at them but i will do it again)
I’m not fond of cats.
I currently reside with many other dogs – big dogs and small dogs. I share the house with a teenager but he doesn’t bother me as he feeds me :-) I have been able to play with other smaller kids and i do like them - just don't want to be picked up or squealed at.
I am extremely curious and can be very stubborn at times. I’m full of personality and will keep you entertained for hours.
I love to follow my humans around either outside when they are gardening / playing or inside when they are doing anything – I will also find the most comfortable spot in that room and have a snooze.
I snuggle up so well in my foster parent’s bed, and I just love the pillows and cuddling up under the covers. I’m not a loud snorer promise. So I’d love to have a home that would let me onto their bed - I’m negotiable on the “under covers” part, I know some people don’t like that, so you could train me to sleep above the covers, I’m down for that. I’ll also sleep on the lounge with you or in my dog bed, but as long as you are near me otherwise I’m up following you around.
In my old life I used to be an outside only dog, but life has changed for the better when I met my foster mum and I don’t want to revert back. I really, really want to be part of your family, so inside with you would be the only thing she’ll accept. I’m learning my toilet training, so please be patient if I have a few accidents, I’ll get to know your routine in time.
I shed hair, a lot so weekly brushing and fortnightly baths are the way to go, to keep me smelling good and looking pretty. I love a good bath.
I think I’d really like to have someone home more often than not, maybe a part time worker or work at home family member. I might be OK at home by myself, as long as I had a companion, but I do get upset if you are on the other side of the fence, because I’m not going with you.
