About Penny
Penny or 'Penn' is a cross of working breeds and is all the intelligence and energy of both!
She loves going for big walks but nothing tires her out like a good game of mental stimulation.
Her ideal home would involve a Mumma at home for Penn to stay and protect with a couple of kids to play and dote on her and her beautiful face. She loves playing fetch and catch with her plushies. She's a gentle girl at heart. Around kids (5 years +) her true natures comes to life, she calms immediately and lays in their lap. She melts in their laps, in fact. As she's about 22kgs, children 5 and over are recommended due to her size.
But don't be fooled, she is a VERY intelligent girl and needs a home with humans who have owned working breeds in the past. You must be willing to work with her to establish clear boundaries as she is still a puppy/young teenage dog and will exploit every weakness you have for her beautiful face. But the firmness that you must have with her comes with it's rewards as there is no better feeling than to teach her new tricks and steps to becoming a well rounded dog and watching her flourish.
As a Kelpie X, she needs to be with someone who understands the traits of this breed. While she loves her walks and exploring, she loves being with her human just as much. She bonds quickly to her human but is still quite nervous with new humans and new visitors to the home. While she protects the family she is with, she isn't a guard dog, but she is one of the most loyal dogs you could meet.
She would enjoy an environment where she is included in the family. Penny would best suit someone looking for a loyal and loving companion who enjoys exercise and playing with their dog, involving her in the every day aspects of life.
Any other dogs in the home will need to be another high energy male doggy friend for company and play time - but also a dog willing to let her be the Alpha.
She is learning to walk nicely on her lead and walks best on a face halti.
She is very well toilet trained.
True to Kelpie form, she does like to keep an eye on what her humans are doing but has not exhibited any separation anxiety.
.
She is still under two years old and is still has a puppy's personality, playfulness and dopiness.
Penny is a clever girl who would very much blossom with someone committed to continuing obedience training to develop her big girl manners. She is reactive to cars and can become obsessive to the excitement of the outside world so Colorbond fencing or double lapped timber fencing is recommended.
Penny is located in Burpengary, QLD.
Cat Friendly: No - no pocket pets (she has not wanted to be friends with birds, guinea pigs and kittens so far!)
Dog Friendly: yes - a male doggy friend of a similar size at home would be nice
Child Friendly: Yes - older children recommended
House trained: Yes
Separation Anxiety: Not with a doggy company or frequent human company, however would be lonely on her own if her humans were out most days
Indoor/outdoor dog? Both
Medical notes
Penny will be desexed, vaccinated & microchipped.

Safe Haven Animal Rescue Inc have a 10 day trial/settling period, if for any reason the pet needs to be returned, we will happily take them back into our care once a foster home is found and the adoption fee minus $50 (admin fee) will be returned via bank transfer within 5 working days. If the pet is returned after the trial period there will be no refund made.
ADOPTION PROCESS:
1. An Adoption application MUST be filled out prior to the meet and greet with the animal.
2. 'Meet & Greet' with the animal and their carer will then take place. You must bring your current dog along to the meet and greet if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption. If meeting a cat we do not recommend brining your current dog/cat as this may stress the cat/kitten out.

If prior arrangement is made, an adoption agreement/s and payment must be made before collection of the animal.

5. Adoption is finalised after 14 days and paperwork is sent via email.
