Wheek wheek wheek! What are you eating? Don't hide it from me, I can hear you open the fridge from the other side of the house! Yep, my hearing is that good. So get me out of my cage, give me some cuddles and share some of that food with your best little buddy. I'm not fussy, I eat almost everything! I LOVE fresh greens like baby spinach and salad mix, carrot, tomato, celery and sometimes even cucumber. If you live locally, I come with my own little two-storey flat. My kitchen is upstairs which gets me out and about. When I'm not having a snack, I play with my jingly bell and have naps. But I'm very social so please take me out for a cuddle every day, there's only so much napping I can do! When I've had enough cuddles, I'll give you a friendly nibble to say I want to go home.

Just like all guinea pigs I love to bury myself under leaves and vegetation. I love tunnels too. We need to be fed twice a day and our diet also includes hay, pellets and washed fruit and veges. Fresh greens every day are a must to keep guinea pigs healthy.

We need the companionship of another guinea pig to be truly happy - or sometimes another small pet that we've grown alongside and bonded with will do.

We're a bit more heat tolerant than rabbits. At the moment, in the heat of the Pilbara, I could go into a safe outdoor cage in the late afternoons with leaves to play and burrow in. But during the day I must be inside the house where it's cooler.

What else will I need to be happy? A gnawing block, a brush once or twice a week, fresh water in a metal spouted drip bottle and my own sleeping area - with a cover on top. Guinea pigs need their home cleaned every day and their bedding changed every week. We can live for up to ten years. And we make great pets for gentle children.
