On Hold
About Rex
Why hello there. Is there anything I can get you? Let me hold that door for you, please. I'm Rex and if I walked on two feet and wore a suit, you could confuse me with a British butler as I'm just such a gentleman!
I'm a mature chap at 13 years old and all I'm looking for in life is a happy home where I can be loved and cared for, for whatever amount of time I have left.
I'm a very friendly and affectionate fellow but not too demanding. I very much enjoy your company, but I'm also quite happy to be just snooze away the days, so I won't mind if you go out to work or whatever else it is that humans do out there in the big world!
I've lived with other pets before and I'm not bothered by them at all so I'll be quite happy to live with any existing animals you have, as long as they don't try to chase me around (you'll need to introduce us slowly of course).
I've never really had much to do with small humans. I wouldn't scratch or hurt them but I wouldn't want them to bother me all the time either. If you have kids that's okay, but I might be more likely to come out at night once they're in bed!
Now, I'm quite easily startled and very shy at first. My instant coping mechanism is to hude under the nearest blanket - it's really quite cute! So when you get me home I'll need my own space, and you'll have to speak to me quietly and gently while I get to know you. That won't take me long and once we're buds, I'll just want nothing but pats and love.
I do have to let you know that I haven't been very well cared for up till now and I might not be around for all that long. It's hard to say - I should definitely live for at least a year or two, but I probably won't be one of those record-breaking cats who lives to be more than 20. I recently had some major dental work to extract some nasty rotten teeth, and I had an untreated abscess on my neck that was cleaned up. A blood test revealed that I have some kidney problems starting up too, which is what will ultimately be the cause of my demise. At the moment I'm eating and drinking well, using my litter tray just fine and doing everything I should be doing. But one day my kidneys will start to decline, and there won't be much to be done about it other than keep me comfy until they fail altogether.
It's kind of sad to think about that, but it's even more sad to think about me being homeless at my age and in this condition!
I know there is someone out there who will love me anyway and make sure that whatever time I have left is truly wonderful.
