About Lucy ~ 6 year old Chi x JRT (pend. adoption)
Meet Miss Lucy, an approximately 6 years old, a Chihuahua x Jack Russell x Blue Cattle Dog. She weighs approx. 4.8 kg. She didn't have the advantage of being socialised as a puppy and therefore can be aggressive to other dogs and sometimes people. This behaviour is because she doesn't know any better. Her foster Granny and Grandad have been working hard to help change this behaviour with some success. She can sit, wait, and come when called.
She is house trained, but must be supervised, although she is showing signs of telling you when she wants to go out. Lucy has been going to dog training and a good day is when she sits quietly on a loose lead and observes the other dogs without barking. She also likes to do the agility course, on lead, and even will do the tunnel. During the seven months that she has been with her carers, Lucy has had two desexed male Whippets visit her "territory" and she is much improved socially with them, they are very laid back and just ignore her aggressive display, so she may at some time in the future cohabit with other dogs.
Lucy has been to the groomers and they say she is fine to wash and clip and her carer has also washed her. She's not fussed on the dryer, but will come around with time. She sleeps indoors on a lounge or one of her beds. Lucy can be left alone and is quiet but will greet you with great excitement when you come home, jumping and barking excitedly. She has toys which she likes you to throw, but won't give them up so she has three which are used in rotation. Lucy can be vocal when she wants something, it's "voice" rather than barking. She will come for a cuddle but is not cuddly and when she's had enough will put herself to bed. She's not fussed on storms, and is an indifferent traveller. A note of caution: Lucy will bite given certain circumstances. She appears to be sore in parts and care must be taken when picking her up. Being little, it's a pretty inoffensive bite, it just surprises you when it comes, but you can't live in fear of her, you just need to remember what bits she doesn't like touched.
Lucy needs a secure yard, and is currently on a 1/4 acre. When her carers are outdoors she will follow them around, she will lie in the sun and do all the normal dog things. Lucy needs a furever home with a committed owner, so anyone thinking of taking on this little girl would preferably have rescue experience. Oddly enough she likes children, and interacts with a four year old, who has been brought up with the visiting whippets.
