About Trip
Introducing the one and only, stunningly derpy dog, Trip!
This handsome lad will knock you off your feet with his good looks, exuberance, enthusiasm... and just with himself!
Trip is extremely loving and has the sweetest temperament but he's not for the faint-hearted. Trip is a pup in a grown-up body and he really needs his new family to be committed to on-going training so that he can shine and you can get the very best out of him.
Koolies are through and through working dogs who need lots of time, attention and stimulation. Trip had a loving family, but they lived in the 'burbs and had small children, jobs and lots of other stuff on their plate, so he grew up without vital training. But it's not too late! At just 15 months old Trip is definitely still maturing and he is an extremely quick-witted guy who learns fast.
Trip needs stimulation every day - both physical exercise and mental challenges. He would be best with a family who genuinely wants to spend lots of time exercising and will also actively engage in the use of things like food enrichment toys as well as other environmental enrichment.
Trip has lived with kids before as mentioned, but he really needs a mature family at the moment - teenagers or adults will be best. When he gets excited Trip is prone to nipping - he's not at all aggressive and it's all about excitement. This is a really common trait in working breeds, who are literally bred to nip at the heels of cattle who weight half a tonne! It's a habit his foster family are working on and he is improving all the time. But patience and consistency are essential from his new family. He does also love to chew, so lots of appropriate chew-friendly items are essential (and it's up to you not to leave your new shoes lying around!)
So we've told you about some of the challenges you might face with Trip, but we haven't told you how amazing he is. Trip is so, SO loving! As you can see, he's a total couch potato if you'll let him be. Trip is just so keen to become your baby and he will be an integral part of your family in no time. Trip is enthusiastic about everything and will definitely keep life very fun. He'll teach you about living in the moment and enjoying every second!
Trip is also good with other dogs. He's obviously extremely excitable with them too, so in public places his interactions will need to be supervised and kept as calm as possible. If you have a well-behaved, relaxed and friendly dog already then Trip would love a friend but if you're existing dog is also super full-on, it might be a bit much to introduce another crazy-potato.
Trip is a wonderful, beautiful, unique and breath-taking dog. He will be utterly irreplaceable. He just needs some understanding and patience.

A note about cats - Trip has lived with cats and he is not aggressive. However, he really, REALLY wants to play with them and sometimes that means chasing. He also has been known to hump them. He might be able to live in a home with cats, but you'll need to give you cats plenty of time and space away from him too.
