About Bear
Bear was born approx 05.06.16 of unknown parentage but suffice to say that he is a gentle giant weighing almost 40 kg. Bear was impounded in Tolga but no one claimed him, which is so hard to understand as he is the most loyal, loving and delightful man to have around. He is very polite with other dogs, really gentle with children even tiny tots, and just wants to be loved and be allowed to love back. He's happy to play with other energetic dogs or just lay about on the couch with you. Whatever is going on, he's just happy to be a part of it all. Bear doesn't suffer from separation anxiety but, if he's left home alone and bored he will go over the fence looking for entertainment and he can jump pretty tall fences, so he will need above average height fencing to discourage him. When Bear was with another foster home the resident dog got quite nasty with him but he never retaliated so he hasn't shown any signs of aggression towards dogs, just a whole lot of tolerance. He spent some time with Buffy who was very much in his face and he "persuaded" her to leave his bone alone but without damaging her at all but Buffy did submit easily. Bear can't be homed with cats or birds though. We believe he must have been used for hunting at some time in his life and cats and chooks, any birds for that matter, bring out that hunter in him which must be avoided and suppressed. If Bear can find a home with timber paling fences that he can't dig under or jump over, with no birds or cats, he would be an amazing gentle giant for any family with kids. He is so gentle with children. He adores them and he is great with other dogs too. Bear travels well in the car, is crate trained and very good on a lead. He has good recall and normally obedient. Easily medicated and just basically a very compliant dog if not distracted by a cat or scrub turkey. All his vetwork is competed and includes desexing, microchip, vaccinations, worm and flea treatment. He has also been tested heart worm negative and will have a complimentary follow up test in 6 months time just to be sure.
