About Betsy ~ 3yo Maltese x Terrier (On Trial 2/12/18)
Betsy is a 3 year old, female Jack Russell Terrier x Maltese. She's a lively, fun-loving and affectionate girl. Betsy came from a country pound and is looking forward to starting her best life. She has had quite a few changes in the last month or two, including desexing and rehoming two times since the pound.
She can be a bit noisy at first, so she really needs someone who can deal with it calmly and gently, therefore she is not really suitable to be a first dog or around very young children under 6 years.
She protectively guards her carer(s) for the first few days with barking, especially if not standing (e.g.: sitting or lying down), but should be settled within a week or two. She does have a preference for females but will take to males in due course. After two weeks she now actively seeks my hubby for a belly rub and a pat.
Betsy loves her squeaky toys. She will chase them, shake them and pull them apart. She will race around the house by herself with a chew toy. If it squeaks the better, if not it is still ok.
She prefers to be an inside dog and is almost fully housetrained. She can use a doggy door.
Betsy has seen but not chased the neighbourhood cats, so If you have a cat then introductions would need to be made. She has previously paid no attention to the chickens in their hutch at a previous location.
Betsy isn't a fussy eater, she eats cleanly without making a mess. She loves her food and accepts whatever you dish up. We feed her wet food at night, with kibble and water out 24 hours for snacking.
When I get the lead out, she gets excited. She lays down or sits and rolls over for the lead to be attached. She enjoys going for walks and does walk nicely on lead. She is also a lot calmer out on lead now that she is familiar with our walking patterns.
She is reported as loving drives in the car and being well behaved.
Betsy loves to be with her special person(s) and will happily follow you around and keep you company. When you sit down, be prepared for a furry friend to join you.
At night time she likes to sleep on your bed, but does sleep in a dog bed at times. When you first get up in the morning she will dance around your feet in greeting, so expect your toes to be licked.
Betsy has a soft, low maintenance coat. Her fur is mostly Jack Russell colour and texture, with Maltese undertones. She needs regular brushing and bathing. She sheds a little, but not a lot. She will need regular haircuts to keep her looking her most beautiful self.
She has many likeable qualities, and doesn't bark, jump or dig. She loves cuddles and tummy rubs. She likes to sit on the lounge with you or on top of you, or be on the floor next to you and even on her own bed at times. She mostly likes to be inside with her foster mum or dad. She will follow you around the house even into the toilet and shower areas.
Betsy needs someone who is home part-time. She would like to have a yard for exploring in the garden, so isn't suited to apartment living. She is a young dog so she needs someone able to commit to looking after her for the rest of her life, which could be 12years+. Therefore, we are seeking a home with someone ideally aged 30-70 years.
Betsy is very protective of her special person(s) especially in our home, and will tell other dogs and people, to stay away by barking and acting fierce. This will settle down with familiarity. For this reason, Betsy should be an only dog. She appears to be a bit snappy in the early days.
