About Bailey ๐
Bailey....This handsome, goofy, lovable guy has been diagnosed with moderate to severe hip dysplasia (in both hips), but given that he is only 12 months old, surgery is not an option at this stage. He doesn't show any indication of being in pain which is great, but as the years go on, this will more than likely change.
Whilst we would love to find Bailey a forever home, we understand that this may take a little longer than normal, given his condition. For this reason, we will also consider finding him a longer term foster home....he is currently in care with 2 other smaller, very active dogs (which he absolutely adores), but he really needs a quieter, less active home. He would be perfect for those who work from home as he loves nothing more than to hang out with his humans.
Bailey is fully toilet trained, obedient, fantastic with other dogs of all ages/sizes and great with kids (older kids would be more suitable due to his size). He walks perfectly both on and off leash, loves his car rides and will 'sit' and 'drop' on command.
Canine hip dysplasia is a common skeletal condition, especially in large or giant breed dogs, although it can occur in smaller breeds as well. In order to understand how the disease works, you first need to understand the basic anatomy of the hip joint.
The hip joint functions as a ball and socket. In dogs with hip dysplasia, this joint fails to develop properly, rubbing and grinding instead of sliding smoothly. This results in deterioration over time and an eventual loss of function of the joint itself.
Research shows that 75% of dogs with hip dysplasia will lead normal quality lives with the appropriate supplements and wise management. Since canine hip dysplasia is a form of degenerative arthritis, joint supplements (which help dogs with arthritis), can also help a dog with hip dysplasia. Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and anti inflammatory medications can also help.
Weight is an important factor to consider when managing hip dysplasia, since excess weight puts undue stress on the hip joints. Moderate daily exercise is recommended (swimming is great as there is no weight bearing involved) and avoiding high impact activities such as jumping and running on hard surfaces.
Fostering this gorgeous boy will mean that Paws a Moment & Rescue will cover food, wormers, flea treatments, joint supplements and any medical treatment. All we ask is that you provide him with love, cuddles and an environment suitable for his needs.

Adoption details
If you would like to express interest in adopting, we ask that you send through some info about yourself, your family and home, if you rent or own (rental agreement required if renting and rates notice required if you own) and what you can offer this gorgeous boy. Our aim is to find the best homes for our babies, not necessarily first in best dressed, so a good detailed application will make you stand out from the rest.
Once we have received your email outlining the above, those who we feel may be suitable, will be sent an Adoption Questionnaire to complete. Your enquiry will then be passed onto the appropriate carer and successful applicants will be contacted via phone.
If you are considering fostering this handsome boy, please email us and we will send through our Foster carer forms.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
