About Sammi
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION:
CARMAR VIC PER: EE100443
When we met Sammi before coming into care we were very aware she was a little ‘different’ and had some specific needs. And since being in care Sammi has presented her carers with some very 'quirky' and ‘odd’ behaviour. Simple tasks such as eating, finding her way around a new environment, being petted, and using stairs for example can cause great confusion and alarm her.
After observing this spunky little Miss for a while and having a vet do the same, it appears Sammi has a problem processing visual information. While her eyes work just fine, her brain doesn't seem to process the information as it should. While some kind of trauma during Sammi's life may have caused this we can never be sure why Sammi is this way, but we can be sure she has a very bright future ahead of her!
Sammi is almost four years old, (DOB 27/12/2014) she's vibrant, happy, healthy, courageous, trusting, bold and has shown how extremely brave she truly is. Sammi will make the very best of anything life throws at her. Since being in care we have had the pleasure of gaining Sammi's trust, enjoying her quirkiness, and peculiar routines. We have seen her accept and deal with the change well.
We know she’d best suit a quiet home with a daily pattern and a special person she can trust, someone who will take full responsibility for. She needs regular daily exercise, a four legged friend and regular vet check ups. With all this in her life, Sammi will continue to blossom and live a long, happy life.
Sammi is not a lap dog and would not suit a household where someone wants to pet her all day and no children for Sammi please! Too many hands trying to touch her would just cause undue stress that she could live without. She would not suit a sedentary or frail person. Sammi's favourite place to be is as close to her humans heels as possible, everywhere her human goes! She can become quite a tripping hazard!!
Sammi goes outside to the toilet when offered. Her signals requesting to go to the toilet are subtle and can be missed if her human is not vigilant. A forever home will have to accept that accidents will happen.
She would best suit a household with another dog. Any size dog will do, as long as they're friendly and not overly active or 'jumpy'. Sammi is cat friendly but a feline friend would have to be super confident around dogs as she can get a little cheeky with them!!
Sammi has just had a quick clip to remove her shaggy, curly locks. We asked her groomer not to wash or dry her, just gently clip as short as possible so she doesn’t have to return too often.
No heights for Sammi, as she appears to have very little depth perception and will jump from any height at any given moment. Wanting her to sleep on your bed is not ideal, sitting her on your lap or carrying her around needs to be done with caution.
Sammi is only a small lass weighing in at 3.8kg. She came into care with severe tartar build up on her teeth. When removed under general anaesthetic the vet gave her dental health the thumbs up and she's now sporting some fabulous pearly whites!
With all this said, our little Sammi truly is a sweet girl. She just wants to be part of a family who's number one priority are their furry family members and who will adapt their environment to suit.
If you feel you could offer Sammi what she needs, we'd love to hear from you.
Medical notes
After being assessed by a qualified Veterinarian Sammi appears to have a problem processing visual information. While her eyes work just fine, her brain doesn't seem to process the information as it should. Before coming into care it was reported Sammi had two seizures after becoming very frightened. We have not seen any signs of this whilst being in care.
