About Gypsy
Gypsy is a great big bearded scruffy girl, and very gorgeous indeed. She is sweet and loving in nature, and very obedient around home.
With other dogs she tends to be quite subservient and is quite trustworthy with them despite her large size (45 kg and quite tall). She is also very good with people, and loves her humans. Initially she was inclined to jump up, but has stopped that now. If she is told to sit, she will do that, and then get a nice pat without knocking anyone over! Gypsy loves her inside time, and is very relaxed inside, and surprisingly careful of the environment. She loves to be inside playing with her toys and just hanging out watching telly. She is quite calm around the older dogs who accept her well. Gypsy also really enjoys being involved in cooking. She just stands next to her foster carer in the kitchen and watches all the action - being tall she can see everything happening on the counter! She doesn't try to take food, just enjoys the company and the process.
She walks well on the lead with a canny collar (just for added security and control), and really enjoys her evening walks. She does have a strong prey drive, and off lead in the bush she will disappear hunting. She always comes back, but she can catch wildlife - it’s in her breed, so in bush settings she needs to be on the lead. In a dog park or the beach she would be fine off lead.
Gypsy is available for rehoming because there is another female dog at home (approximately 1/3 of her size) who is being consistently aggressive towards her, and Gypsy is finding it hard to relax. We have been asked to find a perfect home for her. Her current owners are devastated at having to give her up, but feel that it will be best for Gypsy to have a peaceful non-harassing home environment.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Gypsy's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide. Gypsy is currently living in foster care Elliott NT.
