About Old-Man Charlie (AV1045)
Little Charlie is about the cutest guy you'll find. This super sweet chap is looking for a retirement home but don't be fooled, he's still quite sprightly despite his age and being mostly blind and partially hearing impaired.
Charlie was picked up by a kind member of the public who saw him wandering around lost on the street. As you can see from the 'before' photo, Charlie was is quite a state. He had not been groomed in a very long time and his fur was matted solid over most of his body. He had a collar on the had to be cut out, as it was matted into his fur! Worst of all, his bottom had become fly-blown due to being so filthy. In addition to all of this, Charlie had extremely severely infected ears that were obviously causing him a lot of pain. He screamed out when he was touched but cried if he was too far from you.
Charlie has had a massive make-over! He has been groomed and cleaned up and had a few rotten teeth removed and now he's a new man! He hardly looks like the same dog! Charlie is now much more comfortable and is ready to find his forever home.
Charlie has very cloudy eyes with cataracts that affect his vision. There's nothing medically that can be done about this and he can still see a little bit - his new family just needs to be understanding and help him learn his way around. A home without too many stairs would be good!
Charlie's ears were left infected and untreated for so long that he is going to require on-going maintenance and care of them. He is also experiencing mild skin allergies at present, though fortunately these really are only mild.
Charlie really is the cutest little guy. He LOVES other dogs and loves to play - he would have so much fun in a home with other dogs, big or small, as long as they will be friendly with him. He is also absolutely fine with cats.
Charlie may not suit small kids as he could get startled if they rushed up to him and he didn't see them coming. But he is very tolerant!
Despite his limited vision, short daily walks would make Charlie very happy. We expect him to have plenty of life left and want to find him the perfect place to spend his days.
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
