About Pierre
Hello, my name is Pierre! I am a 7 month old boy looking for a permanent place to call home.
I was brought to Nepean Animal Hospital by some kind people who had found me after I was attacked by a dog. Once I arrived, the friendly staff gave me a complete health examine and also noticed I was suffering from a condition called a ‘’cranial cruciate ligament rupture’’. This along with the fact that I also had some minor abdominal tissue herniating from the dog attack meant I desperately needed multiple surgeries- one to repair the hernia and the other to repair the cruciate rupture (these surgeries went really well and the vet also de-sexed me and removed a sore fractured tooth at the same time).
As you can imagine, my healing time has been long and arduous- I had some problems with pain in my leg and also had some difficult urinating due to the swelling from surgery; but the vets and nurses refused to give up on me and all those problems are now a distant memory! I can happily say I can now walk comfortably on all fours, am happily able-bodied and have no trouble using the litter tray! I am still a little weak in my left leg but that won’t stop me, I can still run and jump like the super star that I am.
I absolutely love to cuddle, but like all cats its usually on my terms. I also enjoy running around and seeing how high I can jump now that all my legs are healthy. I am what you would call a food-a-holic especially for dry food and chicken. After a long day of playing with either my cat or human friends you can find me laying in the sun, just watching the world go by.
Like mentioned above I have been desexed; I have also been microchipped and have had all my kitten vaccinations so I won’t be needing another injection until September next year.
I am currently being cared for at the St Clair animal hospital but I would to find a permanent home with a family that loves me. If you are interested in getting to know me, please contact the adoptions coordinator Courtney on adoptions@wellpet.com.au or (02) 4733 3456, and she will be more than happy to organize something that works for the both of us.
I look forward to playing with you!
Xo Pierre
Medical notes
Pierre presented to our Nepean animal hospital on the 27th of July 2018 breathing up and very lethargic. He was found outside someone’s house and brought straight in. We believe he was possibly attacked by a dog.
Pierre was examined thoroughly and x rays were performed – He had some abdominal tissues herniating from his abdomen but nothing vital. His left hind leg also had a left cranial cruciate ligament rupture. One of his canine was also fractured.
A FIV/FeLV test was performed and the results were negative. He was then vaccinated.
Pierre underwent a first surgery to fix the hernia and was castrated at the same time that day. His canine was also easily removed.
After the surgery, he was still unable to walk due to swelling in the leg from the cruciate injury. He also had trouble urinating so was placed on medication and a urinary catheter was placed.
Once the swelling started to go down and he was able to urinate properly, he went under anaesthetic again to repair the cruciate ligament on the 31st of August 2018.
Since then he has been slowly getting better. He is now able to walk on both legs. He is still lame on his left hind leg but improving very well. As with any orthopaedic surgery, it can take a few weeks or months for him to be able to walk normally but we are expecting a full recovery.
We are not expecting any ongoing issues with the abdomen or with urinary issues.
A cranial cruciate ligament rupture can cause instability in the joint, therefore, he may develop arthritis in the future once he is much older.
If you have any questions about any of the procedures performed on Pierre or on his future care, please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
Regards,
Dr Chloe Lefebvre
Adoption details
Please take the time to browse through some of the photos of our beautiful cats available for adoption. Keep in mind that we have many other cats that have not yet made it to this page who are looking for their forever homes.
