About Bramble (CaV18-258)
Introducing Bramble the magnificent. This incredibly handsome and loving lad has absolutely won the hearts of his foster carers, the vets who are looking after him and everyone else who meets him. If you flick through his photos, you will see one very sad looking kitty cat - that was his pound pic, the one that was posted on facebook in desperation with the message 'will be put to sleep tomorrow.'
Bramble was not in our local area and driving to collect him turned into quite the mission but we got him. We had been informed that in the pound he was a very timid and withdrawn boy who didn't enjoy handling - although he was timid and scared for sure, he was easy to handle and within hours of arriving home, his personality started to emerge. Bramble is extremely affectionate and very very loving. He loves to smooch all around your ankles and rub on every chair, cupboard and corner to mark it as his own. Bramble's luxurious flowing coat was dirty and unkempt when he arrived but now it couldn't be further from that. He does enjoy being brushed but mostly he keeps on top of it on his own.
Bramble does still get a little panicked in new places and he tends to duck for cover when loud noises occur - he'll have a few quiet and timid days in his new home, but we know he will be out of his shell in no time, making his family fall even more head over heels for him.
When he was in the pound, we were informed that Bramble had a persistent cough. It was initially suspected to be a chest infection but further investigation, tragically, revealed a growth in Bramble's nose. It's pushing on the delicate bones between his two nostrils, impeding his breathing and causing him to snort and snuffle and snore like nothing you've ever heard.
Due to it's location, there is no possible way of surgically removing this mass. It's just going to keep growing. We don't know how fast or how slow this will happen. Right now, Bramble is bright and well - he does sometimes struggle when eating and drinking and can have small coughing fits -- this is because he can't really breathe through his nose, which you kind of have to do when you're eating!
So basically, Bramble needs a palliative care home. A family who will absolutely spoil him rotten and make him feel loved and safe and special and wanted, each and every day. A family who knows they will have their heart broken, but knows how worth it that will be, to have this boy in their lives at all. We honestly do not know how long Bramble will be around. He will eventually reach a point at which the growth in his nose is so severely impacting his ability to breathe (and therefore his quality of life) that the decision will need to be made to say goodbye. This might be in 6 months, or 2 years. There's no way to say how quickly things will progress.
It's essential that Bramble lives totally indoors or in a cat enclosure. The thought of him becoming lost and living on the streets again is unbearable and would surely result in a very painful end if he were never found. So you need to be able to commit to keeping him inside.
Bramble has been interacting with other cats and it's pretty clear that he does not like other male cats but could live with a friendly female cat. Or he could be your one and only!
He has limited experience with dogs but we feel that with a sensible introduction he will cope well.
Young children are likely to be a bit too loud, unpredictable and fast-moving for Bramble but somewhat elder kids would be fine.
We know it's a big ask to take on an animal knowing that they may not be with you for all that long. But we also know how amazing that experience can be. Thank you for reading. He's awesome!
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
