About Penny
Hi my name is Penny, sadly I need a new home because sometimes one of the male dogs I live with picks a fight with me, he is a bulldog X and it’s not uncommon for Stafford’s and bulldogs not to get along, I get along fine with the male pug I live with but he is calm and laid back.
I’m house trained, I’ve lived with children, I don’t pull on the lead, I know the commands to sit, drop, stop, no and come when you call my name, I know how to use a doggie door and like to be able to come in and out when I need. I love riding in the car and just sit back looking out of the window.
My owners really don’t want to give me up and have tried for it to work with the other dog & me but occasionally the bulldog & me just get on each others nerves.
My mum has written lots of lovely notes on me which you can read below.
Please go to staffordrescuevictoria.org.au website where you will find the Adoption Application.
Please make sure you read all the information on the Adoption page, as well as the links at the bottom.
NOTES FROM MY MUM BELOW.
Penny has lived with our child from birth that is currently 15 months old, she is excellent around her, she will give her a few licks if allowed, but will stop as soon as she is told no. She will tolerate getting her ears and tail pulled by a child, she loves getting hugs and pats from the child. She won’t steal their toys, we have all penny toys in a basket and all of the childs toys in a area together. Penny is smart and knows whats, what. She’s great with my 4 year old nephew, although when he first arrives she does get a bit excited, but calms down quickly, she does try to lick him but will stop when told ’no penny’. I think she may have only knocked him over once by accident when they were playing, she loves a game of fetch with him.
Penny is so good with children, if she is at the park she will let random kids come up to her and pat her on the head. she doesn’t mind no matter how rough they may be. she is very patient with children.
The reason we have to rehome her as she is having tiff’s with our bulldog X, things are setting them off, door bells, food etc. we have been managing this for a while now, but things in life sometimes still can be unpredictable. Its just too high risk with our toddler on the move now. We have used some behaviour management techniques and it has prevented some near misses, but it has also not helped with the two of them in the situation. The bulldog is the provoker in the issues, but as they are unfairly size equated he is coming off worse. She has never shown aggression to any dogs walking down the street, she will sit next to a calm dog at the vet no problems, she can meet and greet a small submissive dog no problems and enjoy a play with them. She does not like large dogs staring her down, she may or may not try to pin them. She does not like rough play with other dogs and rough ball games. She was attacked as a one year old by a dingo mix dog at a dog park and after that she started developing some trust issues with dominate/ irratic/ large dogs.
She likes small submissive male dogs, just a little chilled out male dog like a pug. But really I think she would prefer to be rehomed as a only dog.
Penny is the sweetest little hippo, she loves a belly rub, a snuggle on the couch, bathing in the sun, wearing a warm snuggly jumper and being involved with the family. She loves people, will take food gently, she know how to sit and a few basic commands, but could probably do with some more training with a new owner to help the bond. She love giving kisses and have to be reminded that sometimes we don't all like kisses.
Penny doesn’t like rough play, but she does like tug of war or to thrown a ball. She doesn’t like getting her ear drops done, but its important to stop her from getting an ear infection , so she will take it, and the run off very quickly. She doesn’t love baths too much, she is afraid of the vacuum and the hair drier.
Medical notes
Penny can sometimes get itchy skin with the change of seasons etc. We took her to a skin specialist when she was little and the result was irritants from inside and outside. If her skin flares up the vet describes her cortisone tablets, currently her skin is fine and she has had no flare ups for a while. She has had mild does of ear infections, we prevent this by using opts-flush once a fortnight, so hopefully prevent this from happening.
Penny also has slab fractures to both upper carnassial, however there is no pulp exposure so the vet has recommended that its better for her to keep her teeth.
SRV will give advice on how to prevent this from happening.
