About Ben (AV1042)
Hey howdy hey!
My name is Ben and people keep telling me I'm just utterly divine. I'm a very social and friendly dog who loves to meet new people and will be your instant BFF (best friend forever!)
I am usually social with all dogs that I meet - I enjoy the company of other dogs so I could happily live with an existing pooch or on my own as long as you socialise me regularly with other pooches.
I have lived with cats before too, so with a nice sensible introduction, I should be fine to live with your feline family members. I'm chilled with chickens and though I've not met a rabbit or guinea pig before, I reckon they'd be okay too (although supervision is always a must with the little guys).
I'm okay with kids as well, if they're gentle and friendly with me. I'm a super loyal guy so maybe your little ones and I can be best mates.
Basically, I'm practically perfect in a bunch of ways. It's almost surprising that I'm so friendly, considering I've not really had the greatest life. I've been a working dog on a farm where I was valued for my skills not my personality or just my own, individual Ben-ness.
I was treated pretty harshly and not looked after that well. I've got a weird lumpy foot that got broken once, a long time ago, and I never went to the vet for it so it healed funny. It hurt a lot and my owner didn't seem to care much. It's not a drama now, I've learned to walk on it totally fine with just a bit of a limp - it just might get a bit arthritic in my later years.
I've also had both my upper canine teeth broken off at some point in the past. Just the roots were left behind, all rotten and sore. It was a constant toothache! The farmer decided he didn't want me anymore so he was going to shoot me, but I was lucky enough to be rescued!
Now, I am used to living somewhere with lots of wide open space and not much fencing. I liked to hop out and take myself for walks, which got me in trouble. My new family will need a bit of patience while I get used to living in a more confined area, and you need good 6ft fencing. I have been known to be a bit of a houdini so definitely don't leave any gates open or anything! (I even pushed a flyscreen out of a window to go for a walk - oops!) I promise it's not because I don't want to be with you - it's just a bit of an adjustment!
Being a super intelligent lad, it's really important that my new family are keen to keep me both physically and mentally stimulated every day. A nice walk or trip to the park every day is essential, as are games at home and puzzles like enrichment feeders. Don't think those things have to be expensive - there are lots of cool DIY enrichment puzzles you can do at home with me! This is just one cool website to check out with great ideas: https://www.pawsocute.com/dogs/dog-puzzle-toys/
Okay so let's recap:
I'm super friendly and affectionate and have a totally AMAZING nature. I'm good with dogs, cats, chickens and children. I'm intelligent and need exercise and stimulation every day. I need a secure yard and preferably someone who doesn't leave me alone for REALLY long periods of time on my own. I can be a little bit insecure due to my past so I need someone to reassure me and help me feel safe.
I'm an incredible dog. Please consider making me part of your family!
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
