About Patch ~ Silky x Maltese (on trial 26/8/18)
Hi, I’m Patch. I sometimes answer to Patches and I tolerate Patchy – But I do draw the line at Patchy-poo – now wouldn’t you? I mean, that is a bit over the top for a handsome desexed male breed dog who is starting to get on a bit in years. They tell me I’m about 9 years old.
I never met my parents. I am quite handsome and when I admire myself in the mirror I think I can see a bit of Silky Terrier, a bit of Maltese and some people say there might be just a bit of Shih Tzu as well. I guess you can say that I’m of mixed breed ancestry - a bit like many of the humans I’ve run into. I weigh in at 6.5 kgs and I know that I should lose a bit of that weight.
Being of a mixed breed, I am of course extremely healthy (apart from a little heart murmur but most small dogs have a bit of that by the time they get to a certain age). Unlike many of your toffy-nosed so called thorough breed dogs I do not carry any of the disabling (and costly) genetic ailments that seem to plague these poor animals.
I have lived with my former humans since a pup. I have enjoyed a life of luxury and affection with them. Nothing has been too good for me. But sadly, they have aged and found it necessary to move into a special place where old humans go – is there a place like that for me one day? - And guess what – NO DOGS!! They were broken hearted when we parted.
I tolerate men, but I think I was born a Ladies Man. Blokes can be OK if they walk me, feed me, bath me if necessary (Ugh!!), take me to the Dog Doctor once a year and so forth. But give me a lady’s lap with no competition and I’m in heaven. Whilst I can cope with other dogs being around (and I’m presently living more or less happily with about 4 or more others) I prefer the one on one. For the last 9 years, I have been an ONLY CHILD. Can we keep it that way?
I don’t like cats, full stop! And I don’t think they like me. I don’t care.
If you’re still reading … I eat almost anything, I’m not a picky eater and if I haven’t tried it before, I’ll give it a go. I’ve just discovered Sardines and the occasional raw egg! Where have these been for the last 9 years?!
I like kids but only as visitors who eventually go home. Remember, One on One. I don’t like competition. I do like TLC. In fact I think I’m a TLC junky. I’m looking for a new home and a new life. I’m a bit fussy but would you like to apply for the job?

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
