About Diesel (CaV18-253)
Hold onto your hats everyone – Diesel is here to blow them away with his good looks and amazing personality.
This big boy is one of those cats who turns people who aren’t cat people into… well, cat people! He will win hearts wherever he goes and is always the life of the party if you have visitors or guests. Diesel loves affection, pats and cuddles.
It’s important to note that for his long, dense coat to stay stunning and knot-free, Diesel will require regular brushing – ideally, once every other day. He enjoys a brush though, so it won’t be a chore!
Diesel sounds like the perfect cat but it’s important that you not fall in love with his appearance without knowing everything about him.
In his previous home, Diesel was known for not using his litter tray – in fact, his urination troubles are the reason he was given up. Diesel has no physical health issues that contributes to him not using the tray and he does use it a lot of the time – but he also sometimes pees on other things such as the couch.
We have no way to predict whether Diesel will continue this behaviour in his new home, but there’s a good chance he will. He’s an easy-going, relaxed boy who doesn’t seem to be inappropriately urinating due to stress – it has just become a habit, which in a cat of his age is hard to break. We do think it *may* be a result of him experiencing some bullying from one of the other resident cats in his previous home but this is not something we can say for certain. He lived with two other cats and seemed to have a very friendly and playful relationship with the younger male, but perhaps had some friction with the older female. If this is the cause, the problem may be resolved by moving him to a new home without that particular cat.
Diesel is not suited to spending long periods of time outdoors, in fact we would encourage that he have an enclosure or only be outside when supervised. So the problem can’t be solved by simply expecting him to wee outdoors.
Diesel’s new family will be true cat lovers who are dedicated to giving an older cat a second chance and willing to adapt their lifestyle to accommodate his needs. This might mean restricting access to certain parts of the home particularly when you’re not there.
We are keen to talk to any potential adopters in more detail, so that we can find Diesel his perfect place. It’s worth noting that his peeing is not a daily occurrence and there is a chance that it may not happen in a different environment – but the last thing we want is to find him returned to our care if it continues.
Please chat to us if you think you are the family for Diesel!
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
