About Maya DB407
Meet Maya!
Maya is a gorgeous gentle dog who loves playtime with her best friend Bailey, and meeting new friends and people. This pretty girl has a stunning brindle coat – that reminds many people of a Tasmanian Tiger. At the dog park, she is a confident, social dog, who mixes easily with all dogs, seeks cuddles and attention from other dog owners, and is always happy to go for run with the pack. After exercise or playtime, Maya will happily curl up on the couch for a snooze or settle in next to you in front of the TV.
Maya is food oriented, and hence easily trained, having learned the basic commands of sit, stay, out, back, come and stop. She will need additional training to generalize these commands and improve her recall. Maya is very quick, and athletic and will, if given the chance, take food from other dogs. She also can jump very high, generally in the pursuit of treats. She enjoys going for car rides and typically lay’s down on the seat and stretches out for the duration. She is not anxious or nervous during thunder storms etc. However, she can be timid when being introduced to a new environment.
Maya’s character is that of a Whippet, hence she has a strong prey drive, the independence of a sight hound (ie may not follow a command if there is something better to do), will chase birds, small animals and cats, and enjoys close contact with her house mates. Maya is somewhat dominant with the other pack members. Therefore, if there is another dog in the home, it needs to be assertive, have a similar energy level, and enjoy wrestling and engaging in lots of interaction with Maya, otherwise it may find itself an underdog. It is recommended that she will need a home with no small pets,(cats, rabbits, chickens etc) due to her prey drive. A family with older children, or someone who is able to spend the majority of their time at home would be ideal. Her family should also be committed to providing her with obedience training so she knows her place in the family and becomes a well-behaved family member.
** Essential Criteria: Maya must be rehomed with a playful male dog **
