About Bonsai
Who doesn’t love a Cavie?!
--PLEASE READ HIS PROFILE CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING—
Meet Bonsai – he is a lovely gentleman who is looking for a home where he can be cherished and loved for the rest of his years. Bonsai’s favourite things are napping, eating and going for car rides. You had best have a TV that can be turned up load as he is quite the snorer! Bonsai has a lovely temperament and nature. He is dog and cat friendly and happy to meet anyone and everyone. He is a beautiful companion who is happy to hang out on the lounge with you and follow you around the house or yard.
Bonsai is currently living with 4 other dogs and a cat. He enjoys the company of other dogs but is beyond playing with them. Playing with the cat is a different story – he loves to chase him and there is no malice intended. If the cat won’t run he might even give him a few barks to get him into the game! When it’s not playtime though, he ignores the cat completely. Bonsai requires the company of another friendly but placid dog in his home to hang out with when you’re not home as he does suffer a little bit of separation anxiety (he barks for a bit when you leave – it’s not particularly loud but it probably makes him not suited to a unit/apartment lifestyle). This is something his new owners will need to be patient with as he settles in, but it does improve with time. Consequently, we are looking for a home where someone is home most of the time to keep him company as well.
There is no particular training needed with Bonsai. He is toilet trained, crate trained, sits, and walks on a lead. However, he does have some other special needs. Bonsai’s favourite place is the lounge. He can get up on the lounge but getting off is no good for his body so he will require someone willing to provide him with some stairs or platform. Arthritis in one of his back legs means that he is not very active, so a gentle stroll is all that he needs in term of exercise. It also means that he requires a supplement. At the moment he is on Antinol which he should continue for the rest of his life at a cost of about $1/day. His new home should also not have stairs to access the yard, and if he is going upstairs to sleep at night he should be carried. Bonsai is currently being treated at The Balanced Canine Sydney (located at Seven Hills) for some aches and pains in his body. His new owners must be willing to continue to take him there regularly or have him seen regularly by a similar practitioner (other suggestions in Sydney can be provided). This is a very important part of keeping him feeling good. Being a Cavalier, he will also need regular grooming with particular note given to his nails which were left to overgrow previously – consistency in their trimming will aid in getting them shorter.
Bonsai is an indoor dog who can use a dog door to access outside. In his new home he will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. He has been losing weight while in foster care and is down almost 2kg. A healthy diet and light exercise is needed to continue this trend. He has a grade 2 heart murmur which is currently not under treatment but his new owners should follow vets advice to manage this in the future (this may involve some preventative medication). Bonsai has undergone a dental while in care and now has nice clean teeth.
If you are interested in making the lovely Bonsai a part of your family and meet the criteria needed in his new home, then please let us know by filling in a dog adoption enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
