About Benji (& Benny)
See them in action in their movie https://youtu.be/wUn6xIZwt_8
Ideal Owner
Benny and Benji have the 'x-factor' and will make a wonderful addition to a home able to give them the tender loving care they deserve. They are good with kids, other dogs and love to play. Devoted to each other, they cannot be separated. They require someone home more often than not as they become anxious when left alone for more than half the day. As Benji currently tends to bark when lonely their new owner will need to be able to undertake some training. We expect this will improve when he has more attention, regular exercise and training. In the mean time consideration to the proximity of neighbours needs to be considered. The dogs need to be welcome to be involved with family activities.
They will not suit homes with residents that are very young, frail, elderly, renters, time poor or full time workers.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Benny will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker. Benji barks when alone but this should improve with more attention, exercise and training. They will suit any of the following:
someone home more often than not,
stay at home parent,
someone that works from home,
part time workers,
empty nesters,
active retirees.
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
They are friendly, playful, loving and gentle - good with kids and other dogs. They can get anxious if left alone for more than half a day and whine.
Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active. They love the beach and the park equally.
When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs they start off pulling but settle using gentle leader chest harnesses.
When OFF a lead ...
Sometimes good and sometimes bad. This breed tends to chase birds and may take off without warning. They usually come back when called, unless there is something very exciting to look at.
Type of Yard Required

______________________________________
We strongly recommend you read the profile carefully where everything we know about the dog/s is outlined.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner(s). It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog(s).
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we offer a 2 week cooling off period but do not usually allow trials. See here for the difference https://www.dogadoption.org.au/can-my-dogs-new-owner-have-a-trial-period-before-deciding-to-adopt.html
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
