About “Barney”, Big Boofy Blue Brindle. Melbourne
Barney’s ears alone are enough to make you fall in love! They’re the softest, goofiest ears ever, attached to a gorgeous big blue brindle body with a gently greying face. Barney’s personality matches his ears, being soft and warm, with endearing moments of daffiness.
Barney may be middle-aged, but still has plenty of get-up-and-go. His health is good, except for pannus – an eye condition easily treated with regular drops.
He loves his two daily walks (or one long walk), behaving excellently on the lead. He’s also learning lots of new words, like “treat”, “stop”, “come on” and “breakfast”.
Barney gives exceptional cuddles, so wants humans who are around a lot to receive them. He might like another dog for company, and may have lived with another greyhound before, although any new dogs in Barney’s life need to be introduced slowly. He still gets overwhelmed at the dog park, and can get a little nippy with dogs he doesn’t know. With patient socialisation, he’ll be wonderful in time! Barney’s fine with children (seven or over), but not recommended for a home with cats.
Barney took some time to come out of his shell, but is now gently confident with his foster carers, lying with his head in their lap, or asking if he needs something in a non-demanding way. This big old sweetheart has lots of love left for a special forever family.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
