About Lenny and Penny
Hi, my name is Penny and my brother’s name is Lenny… we are 6.5 years young! We have come into care with BRQ due to our escaping… Of course I am the brains behind all operations, Lenny is the brawn… he is always getting caught. I am also the boss of the two of us… If Lenny gets into trouble from mum, I will also go and growl in his ear at the same time. Lenny seems to deal with it quite well, bottles it up and when he has had enough of me, then he lets me know who is REALLY the boss around here… or that’s what I have him believe… sometimes men just need to express themselves as men… but we all know I have his BALLS
We really do love each other, we do most things together, and we play super well together, the humans think it’s cute to watch… Lenny is more into those doggy games, and toys etc but I prefer to watch whilst cuddling my hooman. We both love our Kongs esp when filled with yummy treats. We both love it when our humans hide chicken necks around the yard and we have to hunt them down. Whilst Lenny is being all doggy like, I will watch and get all the pats and cuddles. The hoomans are all mine, i just love them… I will sit on their feet or better still if i can, sit on their laps forever.. nothing wrong with cuddles on the couch all day is there??? Apparently we also snore, and sometimes not in sync either…
We both love going for walks, we love the beach and going for a swim but no to showers and no to bath time… like most beagles, we cannot be off leash, although I do have a good recall skills but not Lenny, if he gets his sniff on, plus being male… that selective hearing kicks in! We are super social and love meeting anyone and everyone… We are also crate trained and we sleep together in the one crate like most bonded beagles.
We are both very food orientated, and our manners and basic commands magically appear when food is around. Lenny prefers raw meat, I prefer mine cooked, but are pretty easy for whatever is put in front of us. Lenny has a fear of storms, he gets quite anxious and will want to be inside. Generally we are outside dogs, as I have a fetish for socks/undies and our humans close all doors as I like to take things, anything to bury… But at my foster dad’s house we are allowed in and we are loving the couch time, and the hooman time..
So, our escaping… yes, yes, yes typical Beagle style… we can and will dig, but at one of our trial homes, we didn’t even bother as we had it too good, with loads of couch and inside time, and those warm cuddles and snuggles form our hoomans. Wire fences is no good.. Wood fences, would be ok if there is some sort of concrete or rocks under so we cant chew or dig our way out, and forget electric fences, we can get around, under and through those too! yep we are talented.. more so determined!
So, we need 6foot fences made of Colobond, concrete, or retaining walls, rock/stone… etc. with a concrete mowing strip under neath the fence so we cannot dig under… the one positive is we don’t or in my case, can’t jump over fences. Or better still, we would love our humans to be at home with us, possibly if you can work from home, or a stay at home mum, a retired couple, or one that only did short hours, or even if we could go to work with you? Our foster dad wants you to know that we are well behaved, we love cuddles and we are just big sooks!
We want Lenny and Penny to go to a furever home, we are NOT CHARGING an adoption fee. These two gorgeous oldies have been in foster care for a long time and they really deserve their own furever family. … We are a bonded pair and will not be split up... Lenny has papers and is from a Breeder, Penny has no paper but both are purebred Beagles. We are vet checked and ready for our next adventure. Feel free to contact the lovely ladies at BRQ for an application form.
Medical notes
Penny has a little arthritis in her back legs, however this can be due to her weight issues and needs to lose some weight, she does have pain medication for it... only when she over does it etc.
Adoption details
All of our Beagles/crosses are vet checked and vetted prior to them being made available to adopt. They will be desexed as required, fully vaccinated, Heartworm tested, and Flea/Worming/Tick preventatives started, and any other medical needs completed or controlled with medication.
Once ready for adoption, a profile will be placed on the website and facebook advertising their full profile description and requirements. BRQ accepts applications until a given date. The committee will get together and read each one, choosing the best applications that suit each individual dog’s needs, personalities and developmental/health.
The foster Coordinator will organise the meet & greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care and the successful applicants. These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members and any other hounds you have already accompany you on the meet and greet.
For adopting families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard and places throughout the house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed to be and spend most of its time. If the successful family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and at least half the fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or at night).
If successful with the meet and greet, a BRQ rep will organise to do the yard and fence checks. This is done to check that the fences and yard are both safe and all is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problem areas that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until all problem areas of fencing have been fixed.
The foster coordinator will choose and contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet and yard/fence check and the needs of the dog. Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details and depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed.
Trial period up to 2 weeks is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other and see if it is a good match between you all. Whilst on trial, the foster mum or coordinator will call a few times during, and you are quite welcome to send us messages or call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period and if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with any training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary and behavioural training during this time.
If after the trial ends you have decided to continue with the adoption of your Beagle/Hound or cross, we will send you out your adoption pack. In this pack includes, all vetting paperwork, Microchip details, Adoption certificate, Adoption Information, Receipt of payment, preventatives dates, With puppies, you receive a puppy pack. Life time guarantee of advice, training and support.
If for any reason the trial doesn't go to plan and when the dog is returned to us, we refund your adoption fee minus the $50 admin fee via bank transfer.
