Wicket is a happy little boy, despite his previous neglect. We have done all we can to get Wicket as healthy as is possible, but he does still have some health issues that his new home will need to manage. Please read his profile in full before enquiring.
Wicket would be ideally suited to an adult family who have lots of time to spend with him helping him to use up all his energy! In return Wicket will love you, unconditionally. He is extremely affectionate and wants to be with you every minute. Wicket doesn’t like to be left alone too long, so he needs a family that is home a lot or can take him to work with them. Wicket will be happy to live with another calm friendly dog and is fine with dog savvy cats, but definitely no pocket pets as he is easily overexcited by small animals.
Wicket is still working on his manners and being the best little dog he can be. Although his progress while in foster care has been fantastic, his new family will need to be prepared to continue with his training.
Wicket has some medical issues that his potential adopters will need to be mindful of. Wicket has grade 2 luxating patellas, however is not lame and is coping well so does not require surgery. Wicket takes daily supplements to help his joints and has been having Cartrophen injections while in care for an extra boost.
Wicket has had surgery on his soft palate due to brachycephalic airway syndrome and he also has a collapsing trachea which can cause him to cough at times. This doesn’t require any medication or surgery but will need ongoing monitoring. This means his exercise and excitement levels must be controlled. Wicket needs to be walked on leash and harness only, never on lead and collar (resulting in pulling on his neck/throat) and no off lead running or ball chasing.
He is generally great on lead but can pull a little if he sees another dog chasing a ball. For this reason he would not be a suitable companion for an elderly person or someone who is physically compromised. He is still very playful and loves wrestling with his toys.
Wicket LOVES his food. Almost as much as he loves cuddles and belly rubs. Wicket is a very sweet little guy, and will be a wonderful addition to the right home.
Wicket is in care in Bentleigh East.
**Please note - none of Wicket's very handsome foster brothers are available for adoption!**
Medical notes
Wicket has had extensive surgeries and medical treatments (as mentioned above) as well as being desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated
