About Stevie - Assisted Rehome
Stevie is a gorgeous, affectionate 18mth old boy who is in need of a forever home. He was found in Woongarrah on the Central Coast NSW and while the people who's doorstep he landed on, did everything possible to find his owners, without a microchip or collar, this made it near impossible. They have now desexed, vaccinated and paid for bloods to be done, and after meeting Stevie, Paws a Moment & Rescue are more than happy to help find him a forever home.
Photos just don't do this gorgeous boy justice....he's stunning! and is such a friendly and intelligent young man. He's energetic, litter trained, LOVES to play and full of life. Stevie is a purr machine and not at all shy with new people or new environments. He's very chatty and wants to be your best friend. Due to his energy level, he would suit older children (12+), but also a total lap cat!
Stevie has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but it's really not as serious as it sounds....It's less severe than HIV in humans and definitely not transmissible to people or other species for that matter (so the dog is safe!). New research also suggests it is far less transmissible between cats than previously thought.
The virus affects the immune system, leaving cats vulnerable to infections and disease. If they get injured or ill, they may take longer to recover than most cats and could need a little extra TLC. But they generally don't require on-going medication, or much additional care. An FIV cat that's kept indoors (or with access to a cat run), fed a good quality diet and taken to the vet at least once a year for check ups, may enjoy a normal life span of over 15 years!
FIV is spread mainly through deep bite wounds while fighting with other cats (a light nip or a surface scratch won't transmit the disease). Pets in the same household cannot transmit the disease to each other, except by mating or by deep bite wounds (both of which are highly unlikely amongst desexed cats, even amongst cats that don't get along well), so grooming and sharing food are not a problem. Like humans, cats can also carry FIV without having AIDS. Cats with FIV can live long, healthy and happy lives, which means they can most certainly shower you with snuggles and enrich your life with adorable antics.
Stevie's requirements:
* He must remain an indoor only cat to reduce the risk of infection or other diseases which may compromise his immune system.
* He needs a good quality diet, with no raw meat, raw eggs and unpasteurised milk.
* Regular parasite control (for intestinal worms, fleas, ticks and heartworm)
* Vaccinations to be kept up to date.
* Twice yearly vet checks are recommended, and quick action is required should he become unwell, so that your vet can get on top of it ASAP.
FIV is known to be carried by approx. 19.5% of cats in Australia, and many would be undiagnosed due to no symptoms being displayed. Stevie's blood work came back with excellent results and all within the normal range. He's in wonderful health and all ready to find that place to call home.
Stevie is located in Woongarrah, on the Central Coast NSW. His foster mum and dad will be happy to answer any other questions you have and look forward to organising some meets for this handsome boy. Please contact either Beau - 0429172955 or Cass - 0420551938 for further info.
