About Ruby
Hi, my name is Ruby... I am a 5 year old Beagle x Cavalier.
Don’t you love my name? How appropriate is it? Considering my gorgeous Ruby Red colour, if i say so myself. oh, and how cute are my white tip tail and my white angle sock feet?
So, a little bit about me… my hobbies include, sniffing, chewing and eating…. Surprised? No, you shouldn’t be as I am part Beagle after all, but don’t let that put you off… the good parts are all Cavalier, like snuggles and my playful nature.
I enjoy long walks, short walks and walks to anywhere with you… but again don’t be surprised if I pull you here and there and over there and back here for that sniffy wiffy smell! I am also great in the car, i start out by looking out the windows and dreaming of where we are going, and eventually I lay down and am so patient whilst we get to where ever we are going! I get super excited and want to get out straight away, so my foster mum uses a seat belt with me, you know as Safety must come first!
My other likes are chasing balls, toys with squeakers… I am a little obsessed with them, all toys are mine and the squeaky ones I destroy first, plus I also love chilling on the couch and I have a fascination for cow hooves and goat horns… oh and I love wondering around the backyard sniffing, and rolling around in all the smelly things I can find... my foster mum thinks I am just scratching my back till she gets a wiff of me!!
Now, for some truths… don’t judge, we all have skeletons! I can get a little nervous around small children, I think it's because I find them intimidating so I would prefer older families only please. I am an absolute sweetheart, and very affectionate and love cuddles and kisses with my human but once I let my guard down… as they say once bitten twice shy… That phrase is so true!
The reason why i was surrendered was because when my furry brother came along, I felt a little intimidated and I tried to be the alpha, as I was once before "he' came along and ruined a perfectly good family!! Men, hey??? But, as he was a little bigger than me, ok ok ALOT bigger than me, I didn't win the 'discussion'. So now, I would prefer to be the only furry one in the family… besides a Cat, I can handle them now… at first i was a little scared and would growl and bark at my foster mum’s cat but now I am super brave and the felines do not bother me… But for the rest of my triggers, I am now on some happy pills to help me.. so therefore my adoption fee is reduced!
So there it is, all about me… I love to be with my humans, whatever they are doing as long as it’s with me… which means I am so loyal and loving!! I am de-sexed, microchipped, up to date with all vaccinations and Flea/Worm preventatives…so I am good for adopting!
Medical notes
Ruby is on Lovan, 1 tablet per day for anxiety
Adoption details
•All of our Beagles/crosses are vet checked and vetted prior to them being made available to adopt. They will be spayed/neutered as required, fully vaccinated, Heartworm tested, and Flea/Worming/Tick preventatives started, and any other medical needs completed or controlled with medication.
•Once they are ready for adoption, a profile will be placed on the website and facebook advertising each dog giving their full profile description and requirements.
•BRQ accepts applications until a date provided to our supporters – This is always mentioned on Facebook, our website and our emails when applications are sent this way.
•The committee will get together and read each one, choosing the best applications that suit each individual dog’s needs, personalities and developmental/health.
•The foster Coordinator will organise the meet & greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care and the successful applicants. These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members and any other hounds you have already accompany you on the meet and greet.
•For adopting families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard and places throughout the house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed to be and spend most of its time. If the successful family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and at least half the fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or at night).
•If successful with the meet and greet, a BRQ rep will organise to do the yard and fence checks. This is done to check that the fences and yard are both safe and all is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problem areas that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until all problem areas of fencing have been fixed.
•The foster coordinator and the committee choose and contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet and yard/fence check and the needs of the dog.
•Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details and depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed.
•Trial period up to 2 weeks is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other and see if it is a good match between you all. Whilst on trial, the foster mum or coordinator will call a few times during, and you are quite welcome to send us messages or call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period and if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with any training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary and behavioural training during this time.
•Once the adoption is official, we will send you out your adoption pack. In this pack includes, all vetting paperwork, Microchip details, Adoption certificate, Adoption Information, Receipt of payment Worming, Heartworm and Flea/Tick dates, With puppies – you receive a puppy pack. Life time guarantee of advice, training and support.
If unsuccessful, your adoption fee will be reversed minus a $50 admin fee.
