About Bertie
Hi, my name is Bertie. I’m 2.7 yrs young. As you can tell from the photos with my furry foster brothers, I am a rather tall Beagle… it may have something to do with the Kelpie or Collie mixed into my DNA. Don’t let that put you off though, as I am a gentle giant. I love attention, cuddles, pats… love it all. I have a tendency to sit on or push in between any competition for those snuggles, pats and sooky loves.
I was surrendered to BRQ from the Bundy pound, as I was found wondering the streets… I have been in foster care on a farm with 2 smaller sized doggies and was loving it. My bestie, Moto is a Bluegle (Blue Smithfield x Beagle).
The foster furry Brothers helped me learn the ropes of farm life, even the naughty ropes like rushing to the fences and barking at the Billy Goats when they get too close to the house yard. And of course, Bertie is loving every minute of it. Bertie says, in his defence.. he is protecting the foster family from all things that wonder near or past the house yard.
My best features are my manners and I can walk fairly well on a lead… yep, she typed that.. not a typo!! Must be the working dog DNA.. haha :) I love my food, yep no surprise there.. but a little too much that it is necessary to be fed alone. He prefers the company of his human over furry friends, otherwise he gets a little noisy… my foster dad takes me with him around the farm, whilst he works, I keep busy protecting the shed. My loves are playing, my hoomans, sleeping and eating! I sound too good to be true right? So who wants me to snuggle with me furever?
Lately our foster carer has noticed Bertie is definitely not a farm dog and prefers to be the only furry one around. He is becoming aggressive towards the goats and other furry ones around, Bertie prefers all the attention on him, so will suit an only dog home.
We are looking for a new foster carer, foster to adopt or adopting family for Bertie. Bertie is microchipped and de-sexed, up to date in vaccinations and flea/worm preventatives… He is located near Bundaberg, we can and will transport Bertie for the perfect family. We want Bertie to go to a furever home, we are not charging an adoption fee. He has been in foster care for a long time and he really deserves his own furever family.
Adoption details
•All of our Beagles/Hounds will be vet checked and vetted prior to them being made available to adopt. They will be spayed/neutered as required, fully vaccinated, Heartworm tested, Flea/worming/tick preventatives all up to date, and any other medical needs completed or controlled with medication.
•Once the Beagle/Hound is ready for adoption, a post will be put on Facebook, and a profile placed on the website advertising each dog giving their full profile description and requirements.
•BRQ accepts applications until a date provided to our supporters, this is always mentioned on Facebook, our website and our emails.
•The committee will read each one, choosing the best applications that suit each individual dog’s needs, personalities and developmental/health.
•The foster Coordinator will organise the meet and greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care and the successful applicants. These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members and any other dogs you have as pets, come along with you to the meet and greet.
•For families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard and places throughout the house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed to be and spend most of its time. If the successful family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and at least half the fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or at night).
•If successful with the meet and greet, the foster coordinator and another committee member will organise to do the yard and fence checks. This is done to check that the fences and yard are both safe and all is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problem areas that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until all problem areas of fencing have been fixed.
•The foster coordinator and the committee choose and contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet and yard/fence check and the needs of the dog.
•Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details and depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed.
•Trial period is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other and see if it is a good match between you all. Whilst on trial, the coordinator will call a few times during, and you are welcome to call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period and if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with any training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary and behavioural training during this time.
•If after the trial ends you have decided to continue with the adoption of your Beagle/Hound, we will send you, your adoption pack which is all paperwork, and your adoption certificate.
If for any reason the trial doesn’t go to plan and the dog is returned to BRQ, the adopting family will be refunded the fee minus an admin fee of $50 via bank transfer.
