About Maximus (Maxi)
TO MEET OR ADOPT MAXIMUS, PLEASE COMPLETE AN APPLICATION: http://pawfectpals.com.au/adoption-pals/apply/
Dear Future Forever Human,
‘My name is Maximus…’ Yes, it is true – I’m quite a big dog but I like to be called Maxi and I’m more like a giant puppy in nature than a fearless gladiator like Russell Crowe.
I’m black and white with a patch over one eye and floppy, spotty ears that sometimes stick straight out sideways. It makes me look like a cartoon dog but lots of people seem to think that is cute. I’m pretty much like a tall Border Collie with a bit of Staffy in my head shape.
For the first time in my 3.5 years of life I am starting to understand that a dog’s life can be good and lots of fun. I’m learning to trust people and listen to the humans in charge when they ask me to do things like sitting, dropping, staying and coming when my name is called. I’m also getting good at recognising the meaning of these funny words called ‘Good Boy’. I am starting to walk nicely out on walks and have made great progress using a haltermate harness that feels funny on my nose but helps me concentrate on not pulling when I see something scary (like cars and trains) or exciting (like other dogs). I have recently learnt to take treats gently too, which is great because I get more of them now.
I really, really, really like lots of walks and outings as I’m a very, very energetic dog. I love playing with my foster sister - we play bitey-face, wrestle together, share toys and play chasey around the garden until we are both tired. My favourite times of the week are when my friend Vera the 7-month-old Labrador comes over for a play date. Even though I am older and taller, we are best friends and take turns at being the ‘top dog’ in our rough and tumble games. I quite like to play with balls and love to chew soft toys and rubbery things like kongs with snacks hidden inside. Oh – and old cardboard and plastic from the recycling box is so much fun too. I think I could get quite good at playing fetch but I just need to remember to let go of the ball when I bring it back.
I’m friendly with most other dogs even if I am a bit excited when we first meet. I haven’t really met any cats up close but I have seen some in the street – not sure what I think of them yet, they look a bit scary. I like children, especially when they give me pats, but I’m quite big and still a little excitable so I would be best suited to families with kids over 5 years old.
I’m really looking forward to finding my new forever home and a human who will spend lots of time with me and help me learn more so I can become the best dog I can possibly be. I hope that is you.
Thanks for reading my profile letter.
Lots of love
Maxi
