About Phoebe
Our gorgeous Phoebe came into or care from a life of neglect and abandonment. She arrived smelling like a sewer and regardless of how many times her foster dad washed her, she still smelt! She had a nasty lump the size of two golf balls sitting under her jaw and gave us a nasty surprise when she opened her mouth. Unfortunately, she had 5 completely rotten teeth that had started to rot into her mouth. This caused one of the nastiest infections our vets had ever seen in a dog of her size and age. She was seeing the vet every second day initially to try and keep her extraction site free from impaction. She was placed on a long course of anti-inflammatories, antibiotics and a high-fat, high quality puréed diet. This has helped and Phoebe is now on the road for recovery.
Fast forward 6 weeks, Phoebe has improved dramatically. Putting 500g on her body, her mouth is healing and her confidence improving. Her submission urination is now at a very minimal amount (down to one or two small squirts a day) and given a bit longer and a bit more work on her confidence, we expect the issue to disappear!
Phoebe is an absolute sweetheart. She currently lives in a home with 2 other small dogs, a cat and guinea pigs. She loves chasing her shih tzu foster brother around the house and they spend hours together. They sleep together, play together and enjoy exploring. Her foster sister is an older shih tzu and also will happily cuddle up with Phoebe. Phoebe loves to do proper human hugs. If you pick her up and put her legs around your neck, she will push herself into your body and give you a proper embrace. She is so full of life and full of love and would make the perfect second dog to any household!
Phoebe LOVES to use her paws. She would be very easy to teach to shake or high five. She is very responsive to hand gestures. She will use her paws to grab your attention and will sprawl them across your body.
Phoebe is not yet 100% ready for adoption, but we are estimating she will be ready to go to her new home in approximately two weeks. She is currently up for pre-adoption to find her the absolute best home that understands her needs.
Due to her rough start, Phoebe is quite hyper-vigilant when it comes to sounds when she’s on her own. She would suit a household where someone is home more often than not or somewhere quiet without the noise of city, cars and people. These noises are what scare her most. After being trapped in a suburban backyard for the first 2 years of her life, the city is a very daunting and scary place! She needs someone who is willing to commit to continuing her confidence work, who is willing to walk her daily and give her the love and attention she desires.
Phoebe endeavours to be loved and will not let you down. This little lady is an absolute trooper. 💪🏼🐶
