About Jay DL1864
Jay has absolutely blossomed since coming into foster care, he is a fun, lively, affectionate and clever boy who is stealing many hearts!
While our vets guess Jay is around 8 years old, he has the energy and enthusiasm of a younger dog, although he is also content to chill and keep his humans company. He is a happy boy and his favourite things are food and affection.
Jay was extremely underweight when fostered so it is understandable he feels like jumping for joy at dinner time. He has responded well to waiting outside while his dinner is prepared and with prompts will sit and wait until his bowl is placed down. This is the only time he jumps so continuing this routine would ensure he is safe in a home with young children.
He is very gentle when taking treats and loves any food orientated toys like a tasty stuffed kong or a treat filled snuffle mat (which he also picks up and shakes to reveal the treasure!). Jay’s love of food makes him quick to learn with both a clicker and treats. He will now consistently sit, shake paw, lie down and roll over. His ability to stay and wait is improving but he would prefer to keep his humans in sight.
He loves a tummy rub or a paw massage and likes everyone of all ages. He will run to the door when a car pulls up, maybe giving a short bark but is learning to sit away from the door allowing visitors to come in the house to be greeted. Jay is housetrained and is not destructive when left alone in the house. He currently sleeps in his own bed but would love to have cuddles on the couch or bed if invited!
Jay loves to go for a walk and is pulling a lot less on the lead now he feels more confident, confining this training is important. When it comes to meeting other dogs, he will benefit from closely monitored introductions and firm guidance to nurture his growing confidence. He is looking for a home without other pets.
