Our man Bronx came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t know much about his history. He was a shy man initially, however, he obviously hadn’t lived with people as he lacked some manners! Bronx could become a bit nippy while in the shelter, so he went into foster care to see how he would be in a home environment, as he didn’t like being in a cage much.
It didn’t take long for Bronx to settle into a home, he enjoyed the extra space and claimed the foster carer’s bed as his own! From his time in foster we discovered the Bronx doesn’t like to be patted in certain areas and he can give a little warning nip if you touch him in those areas. He isn’t trying to be mean, but is trying to say he doesn’t like that. He did spend the first part of his life on the streets remember… so he is still learning his manner and to live harmoniously with people.
Bronx is otherwise a happy and affectionate cat, who loves to sit beside you quietly purring away. He loves his food and will be waiting to be fed in the mornings and is happy to just laze away on the bed for most of the day.
Bronx’s ideal home would have:
• No children (they’re a bit too full on for him)
• Patient owners who understand he doesn’t like to be touched in certain places
• Dogs – he isn’t too sure about dogs
• Cats we aren’t too sure about but he was pretty happy being the only cat
Likes:
• Playing with toys, especially string ones!
• Scratching on a scratching post
• Sleeping on a bed (all day)
• FOOD!
Dislikes:
• Being held for too long
• Being patted in certain places (bottom of chest, base of tail, around my hips, tummy)
• Loud noises

Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open between 10am-4pm Mon-Fri and 10am and 3pm Sat-Sun.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
