About Ben and Otis
Ben (dad, 10yo) and Otis (son, 2yo), have been left in the most unfortunate circumstances, their elderly owner has been placed into a nursing home, and is unable to care for these beautiful boys.
This duo are quite used to a cushy, indoor, luxurious life... at current they are living in with a very small socialised, well cared for community group, in their owners back yard.
Both are very well litter and house trained, Otis can be wary of new people, but Ben is definitely very comfortable and even pretty chatty!
Medical notes
Ben is a very special boy, he is FIV positive; what does that mean?
FIV is formerly known as 'feline immunodeficiency virus', it is species specific to cats, and is transmitted via deep bite wounds through saliva penetrating subcutaneous tissue of other uninfected cats. The virus does not survive in the environment.
This virus is life long with no cure, only management. The disease process is similar to HIV in humans, it infects normal cells, killing or damaging them, compromising the cats immune system.
The clinical signs are not strictly related to FIV, as it causes illness through immunosuppression, making them more susceptible to infections and diseases.
FIV cats can live long and happy lives with good management plans, such as routine preventative healthcare, high quality nutrition, regular veterinary checks and prompt medical treatment.
*at this stage Otis is negative for FIV but that could change throughout his life with Ben
Adoption details
Ben and Otis are seeking a forever home or a long term foster; they require no other cats in the residence or a family who already have an FIV kitty.
Their adoption will have a month trial period, with a very flexible contract, we just want to make sure that both parties are as comfortable and happy as possible.
If you are considering fostering - all food, litter, healthcare and advertising will be taken care of by us, even transport when available. However, given Bens medical history, these boys may remain in care for an extended period.
Both will be up to date with vaccines, flea and worm treated; mircrochipped and are already desexed, and will have a thorough vet check prior to going into a new home.
Food and ongoing parasite prevention will be provided.
