About Alfie and Ruby
We are very excited to introduce you all to our gorgeous bonded pair Alfie and Ruby. 😍 Both of these beautiful black pugs are 6 years old and have found their way to PPRA after being surrendered to us after their family could not give them the time and care that they both needed 💔
Ruby is an absolute gem 😉 she loves to be wherever you are and is always up for a belly rub, kisses and cuddles. She came to us severely overweight, at 12.3kg! 😳 For such a little girl being so overweight, it was no surprise that she was struggling to move and breathe, so our veterinary team rushed her into surgery. Can you believe that the fat in her neck was literally crushing her windpipe!! 💔
We are so proud to say that after going into puggy boot camp while in foster care, Miss Ruby is 2kg down, enjoying being active and breathing beautifully!
However there are residual issues from her obesity and her knees have developed arthritis which is currently managed with quarterly arthritis injections. Also, Ruby has a cataract in her left eye which has caused partial blindness and glaucoma, so she will need a special family who will commit to administering her eye drops for the rest of her life.
Now onto handsome Alfie! He is the apple of his foster mum's eye! He's got so much spunk!! Sadly, Alfie came to us with severe demodex mange which made his skin look like an elephant, particularly on his chest and back legs - it would have been so uncomfortable for him poor baby! 💔😭 But fast forward 5 weeks, with weekly injections, bathed 3 times a week and an excellent diet, we’re proud to say he's looking amazing! (Photos below - left is BEFORE and right is 5 weeks later)
Alfie was also carrying a little excess weight and his hips were suffering as a consequence. He has lost 1.5kg in puggy boot camp already but could do with a little more off, so his new family would need to commit to continuing his healthy lifestyle. He is also on quarterly arthritis injections to manage his hip discomfort.
As you can imagine, we’re looking for a special family to take on these two beautiful pugs, cherish them and continue the care they desperately need and more importantly deserve. If you think you could offer these two an amazing home and are more than willing to keep up with their treatments and weight loss journey please apply via the link below *** please note, Alfie & Ruby are not available for interstate adoption and only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.

We are also asking you, our wonderful followers to please consider making a donation towards our vet bills for Alfie & Ruby’s care to date - it has been a costly venture as you can imagine and we will never turn away a pug in need! 💸💸
If you can spare any amount, please donate via the link below - remember that any donation over $2 is tax deductible and if you require a receipt, please inbox us 🙏🏻🙂
