About Chief ~ 6yo purebred Rotti (on trial 16/5/18)
Look at this big beautiful boy!
This is Chief, a friendly, happy go-lucky, 6 year old purebred Rottweiler.
Dog Rescue Newcastle are helping Chief’s owners in finding him a new home, due to changed circumstances. I had the pleasure of meeting this boy and he is a big love bug. Always wearing a smile and looking for a pat.
“Big” is the key word here, so Chief would certainly suit a home, preferably with a family/owner that has “big” dog experience and/or is familiar with the Rottweiler breed.
Chief is still quite playful and full of energy and will require regular exercise. Even though Chief is currently in a residential/suburban area, he is used to exercising on a farm, without a lead, so he will require committed training with lead walking, especially because he uses his strength to dictate the walk.
Currently, Chief does live happily with another big dog (since the age of 12 months) but hasn’t had a lot of exposure to many other dogs. His current owner says that he’s never shown reactiveness towards other dogs, even on the occasions he’s been walking on a lead, but it is suggested that, for Chief’s wellbeing he possibly be an only dog or be with another chilled out doggy friend, after careful introduction.
He also hasn’t had much exposure to children but responded quite positive and excited towards the voice of my 8yr old daughter. Again, because of his size and energy, children would need a calm introduction to him and would preferably be older and bigger because his wagging, excited body could quite easily bump a little one over.
He’s not a digger, a barker or a fretful dog, so he could be in a home where he is left alone for a good part of the day provided he gets regular exercise, cuddles, pats, belly rubs and most importantly to be a part of the family. He is currently an outside dog and sleeps in a kennel, but I’m sure he won’t object to coming inside if invited and shown the rules. He’s not properly house trained, but it wouldn’t take him long to learn if needed.
He has good name recall and will sit and shake and listen to his owner. He’s not greedy when it comes to meal times but will still do what you ask if treats are involved - A bonus for training him.
Chief really is a beautiful soul and for the right family/home he will be an amazing companion; but it’s important that his new owner/family are willing, committed and patient with him to settle into a new environment without expectations so that he can shine.
For more information or to meet Chief, please contact Olivia on 0488 749 720 or horvat13@gmail.com. Chief is currently living in the Hunter Valley near Cessnock and is not available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
